on their site they say
Unified Superscalar Shader Architecture

* 120 stream processing units

Isn't the ATI R600 design based around 5 sets of 64 shaders to equal its 320 total.

Therefore the 24 x 5 = 120 stream processors for this card.

One thing that is bugging me though is the 128bit memory interface.

Considering the R600 has a full blown 512bit memory interface couldn't ATI have at least given the card a 256bit memory interface.

I agree but it would cost more, at the moment they HAVE to be price competative so If can still beat the 8600GTS for around the same price....they are sorted!

And to think we were disappointed in the 8600GTS, I will be intersteded to see how this card compares but it will be too late for me, I am having 2 8600GTS for SLi for me Birthday, they can be got cheap now in the UK for less than the price of a 7900GS if you know where to shop.

i wouldnt feel bad man seriously i just got a 8600gt and it is sooo amazing im getting thousands of pints 4k+ in all 3dmark benchies than when i had my 1600xt...its an amazing card dont kick yourself tilly ou see the resaults.

I don't think AC uses heatpipes. Either way I don't think that the quality of HIS coolers are all that great. Good design though.

I didn't say they did! The HIS cards, even upto the HIS x1650 Pro Turbo that died on me had the SAME Artic Cooling Silencer on as the old Rev 3 silencer that I put on my dear old 9800"xt" only with 4 holes instead of 2. They are WAY better than stock single slot coolers AND remove heat from the case to boot; maybe not as vital to you ATX boys but I live in mATX land it every little helps :rockout:

Nice! So a GTS would rock then.....mmmmmmmm 2 x GTS in SLi, I like the sound of that, the big bonus for the GT is such a low power draw, no need for even a PCI_E 6 pin power connector!!!!! Thats gotta be good.

SM4.0 is a part of DirectX 10. We have been using 9 for quite a while now.

Games taking full advantage of SM3 have ben around, while stuff like FarCry have been updated to use it.
RB6:Vegas only supports DX9.0c cards and later, don't know about other games having such a limited selection of supported cards, but probably not many.

SM3 was part of the specification for DX9.0c, but other versions of DirectX 9 used SM2.0
SM4 is for DX10 only though.
