The popular frame-rate overlay, screengrab and recording utility FRAPS is set to make a comeback. The new version 3.6.0 comes with official Windows 10 support, with support for all of the utility's nifty features. FRAPS developer Beepa did not comment on when they plan to release version 3.6.0, only stating that they "hope to have it available as soon as possible," and that its development is in progress. Meanwhile we have a screenshot of a development build running on Windows 10 to chew on.

Yeah, what's the deal?

If I would be the developer, I would focus on making the FRAPS more compatible with SMAA, option to change the font, color and specially the SIZE for that shitty yellow FPS count, etc.

It's free to develop your own software. "if I were the developer"... Start developing or stop complaining.

Fraps doesn't record the FPS marker, so it doesn't matter. Simply turn it off and use in game FPS markers from the console command. Problem solved.

I bought it years ago, you won't regret it! (I wanted to remove the watermark, I think). I hope they still honor previous purchasers.

Owned it for years. I have had a G15 an 2 G19s and FRAPS displays on the LCD nothing on my screen. I wondered if he'd abandoned it. I hope he adds new API Support.

What would hardware acceleration accomplish? FRAPS records its movie output in raw uncompressed format. It basically streams the data straight to your HDD/SSD without any computation performed on that data stream. There is nothing to hardware accelerate.

To need hardware acceleration, first FRAPS would need to incorporate options to store video in compressed formats.

It saves time not having to re-encode videos. Also, for example lets says someone has a small capacity ssd or mechanical drive. It's gonna have major performance drops.

I completely agree. It's a pain in the butt having to spend time re-encoding/compressing it. I was pointing out that the original request was wrong. Don't request for hardware acceleration. First, request for compression encoding support. THEN, request for hardware acceleration.

In its current form, hardware acceleration would accomplish absolutely nothing.

Fraps is garbage MSI AB does everything and more better than Fraps if you know how to configure it.

The only thing ALL of the overlay programs lack at this point is support for Metro style MS apps and DX12

You seem to have completely forgot the main reason why people use FRAPS: Easy FPS benchmarking. OBS doesn't provide that. You can't compare the two, fraps isn't just about recording.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. An update is needed for DX12.

I used that for diablo 3 RoS. Considering i played @ 1600 / 900 using an APU with only onboard video, it worked quite well, for me.

... Use both ... fraps to just show the FPS and OBS to record ...
