Eidos announced that its upcoming AAA title "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided," which was touted as one of the posterboys for DirectX 12 by GPU manufacturers, won't ship with DirectX 12 support at launch. The game will release on August 23, 2016, with a DirectX 11 renderer, while the DirectX 12 renderer will be added via a patch, which will release in the week of 5th September.

Eidos said that it delayed DirectX 12 support because it needs some "extra work" by the developers, followed by optimizations. "We have some extra work and optimizations to do for DX12, and we need more time to ensure we deliver a compelling experience," the release reads. "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" releases for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on the 23rd of August, and is the 5th entry to the smash hit cyberpunk RPG.

This is stupid. Sure, Deus Ex has more replay value than Doom (especially if you finished it on hardest difficulty the first run), but what's the point of releasing DX12 API for it AFTER launch? I want to experience it at its finest on launch, not 2 months later. Maybe. Stupid. I'd rather wait some extra time and get a proper fully finished game than this "DX12 after launch". I don't expect much boost for GTX 980, but still, if it means 5fps better performance, then so be it. Why not. It's going to suck even more for R9 Fury and RX480 users. C'mon devs, stop doing this crap.

i'm excited about DX12 and i'm green team these days. AMD just gets a bigger boost - it's basically being told "you get the game, but you get a 30% performance hit for 3 months. enjoy"

Depends. In an essence it's DX11 with added performance. Then it's up to a dev if they'll keep the performance boost for wider reach of gamers, even those with lower end graphic cards or invest the performance increase for added eye candy. To be quite honest, I'd prefer performance, because the "eye candy" they usually add is pointless, makes no difference other than side by side screenshot comparisons and usually makes performance even worse. Again, like they've done it with tessellation. Despite its heavy use, we still have stupendously blocky elements in games while performance is horrendously gimped with it. Idiotic. So, yeah, I'd prefer if they'd stick with performance aspect of DX12. Frankly, I'm not aware of any new graphical feature that in DX12 that would improve visuals beyond DX11 by itself.

Why? Doesn't DX12 work on NVIDIA?

Mankind Divided was the game that camp red was waiting and hoping for to make DX12 relevant. Except it's not going to anymore, so that tired weak argument "buy AMD cards because they will have good DX12 performance in future titles" becomes even tireder and weaker.

in the long run who cares, 99% of TPU'ers can run this game just fine in DX11.

I am just gonna watch the playthrough on Youtube, few days after the release. Just for the story :) Games are better movies than movies these days. I didn't really like the original ending choices Human Revolution had, I couldn't relate to neither solution the writers had in store for the players.

This has been the trend hasn't it? Hitman had D3D12 support at launch but then they broke it and then they fixed it. Doom got a Vulkan patch post launch. Mankind Divided will get a patch post launch. I can only think of two titles that launched with D3D12 and kept it: Rise of the Tomb Raider and Ashes of the Singularity.

Ironic that Human Revolution used the same engine as Tomb Raider where Mankind Divided is using the same engine as Hitman. Three out of five titles are Square Enix.

Mankind Divided was the game that camp red was waiting and hoping for to make DX12 relevant. Except it's not going to anymore, so that tired weak argument "buy AMD cards because they will have good DX12 performance in future titles" becomes even tireder and weaker.
Except that it is getting D3D12 support only two-three weeks after launch. Better to fix it before the D3D12 patch then pull a Hitman: release, disable, enable. The decision to delay D3D12 support may reduce opening sales and pre-orders but those sales are still likely to occur inside of a month from release.

I didn't really like the original ending choices Human Revolution had, I couldn't relate to neither solution the writers had in store for the players.
The endings suck in all of the Deus Ex games. Well, except The Fall but that didn't have a traditional Deus Ex ending in the first place.

I'll actually wait for DX12 implementation and then see if there is even any gain for Maxwell 2 series. Or if performance will be sufficient from the get go, I might play it with DX11 anyway. Deus Ex is one of games that are holy grail to me and I want best possible experience the first time around. Best graphic settings with acceptable framerate. Otherwise I'll rather not even play it and just wait. Or this might even give me a reason to upgrade to AMD Vega core...

Though, with Doom, it has stupendously high framerate even via OpenGL even on older cards. Considering the crazy visuals it delivers, it almost doesn't matter. In Doom, Vulkan really matters the most for low end RX460/RX470 cards which gain the most out of it. It's high performance on the cheap so to speak.
