Here are some of the first pictures of ASUS' upcoming flagship gaming keyboard, the Republic of Gamers (ROG) Claymore. This RGB LED-lit mechanical keyboard features a detachable NUM pad, so you get the convenience of the NUM pad at home, and the portability of a shorter 80-key keyboard when out on LANs. The detachable NUM pad provides two additional conveniences, a vertical multi-function scroll-wheel (volume control by default), and an additional USB 3.0 port. The company did not provide details such as the switch manufacturer, or the electronics at play, but you can bet that the lighting management will be care of the ASUS Aura suite.

Considering the appalling styling that Asus can inflict upon their peripherals, it's not too bad.

Of course the usual Asus brand tax means it will probably be well over $200.

Looks like the NUM pad is not only detachable, but might also attach to the other side, which would be a nice feature.

God I hate these tall keys. It's why I stick with membrane keyboards, the flat ones. Needed some getting used to when switching from Logitech UltraX to Cherry Stream XT because membranes on Cherry were slightly stiffer so I was leaving out letters for few days, but now I'm used to it. Might change when someone makes keyboard as flat as Stream XT, but with mechanical keys. Also I do like the quietness of the membrane ones.

Nice keyboard I guess the color is freely configurable that way it can actually look good too. Generally I just care that it has some sort of light at all but the other specs of the keyboard like mechanical are nice too - I just doubt that it's worth a high price just to be able to remove the num pad. Probably rather buy a keyboard without num pad then I never use it anyway.

The flat ones do look interesting. Too bad they don't have dedicated multimedia keys which I absolutely need, but I guess you could program the extra keys for this purpose.

I would have liked it, if not for the ROG logo and the traces on the things. This is my all time favourite keyboard (minus the card reader), make a decent mechanical that looks like that and is built as well and I might consider it.

i, on the contrary, love this design :) though, i get your point, flat keyboards have their advantages. i feel that the mech keys are a bit overrated.

Not bad.. I kind of like this ROG Claymore mechanical keyboard, when compared to previous offerings from ASUS. i.e., the Horus pictured below with its "wings". meh..

The Claymore is much better looking IMO.

The lighting's programmable so doesn't need to be set to rainbow and I actually like the look of this one, the shape and the Mayan pattern has a bit of a lotech thing going on.

I have yet to try a mechanical board. This one looks extremely mechanical.

Would not pay the price for one of these plus just so OTT IMO.

If you wanna go mech and looking for something that isn't exorbitant on price try the Cherry MX-Board 3.0.

Simple design, found the mech keys nice compared with membrane (always had those before), has small indicator LED for CAPS Lock, etc. Quick key for disabling WIN Key, F Keys can be programmed via a OS SW, has only 4 custom keys which I liked than a plethora of them which I wouldn't use. Got mine on Amazon promo £40 delivered :) .

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
now that's something interesting ....

since i use a mech TKL keyboard with a separated numpad on the other side of the desk ...
having a keyboard that can do full or TKL is interesting ... since i also don't use the numpad on a daily basis ...

unplug when not needed plug when needed, one freed USB port, plus RGB means i can set it on full white like the rest of my rig instead of being limited to blue and having to set my Nyth on blue

have yet to see it available at my retailer/etailer and at what price...

£150 ex p&p here in the UK, without num pad . Rather spend that kinda £££ on next CPU or GPU upgrade than input device.

I would think the num pad would be in the region of £50. So that's £200 for "that", plenty of other hardware I can think of that would enhance my PC usage experience instead of that IMO.

Don't get me wrong I have Asus products which I deemed worthy of buying like tablet, mobo and current screen. Would I pay Asus RRP or normal etailer pricing? no way, gotto be promo/deep cut price.
