Acer Announces the Predator XB241YU 24-inch G-SYNC Monitor

Acer announced the new Predator XB241YU, a premium 24-inch gaming-grade monitor. Its key features include NVIDIA G-SYNC support with refresh-rates of up to 165 Hz, 1 ms response time, and WQHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). The monitor achieves these refresh-rates with a TN-film panel. Its new ZeroFrame LED back-lighting keeps the front bezels framing the panel to a bare minimum. Its stand allows height, tilt, and rotary adjustments. The monitor takes inputs from DisplayPort 1.2 (needed for G-SYNC), and HDMI. A 4-port USB 3.0 hub and 2W stereo speakers come embedded. Available now, the Predator XB241YU is priced at US $499.99.

It's a 165Hz GSYNC panel, that's where the cost is (well that and most manufacturers only make their 24" panels 1080p).

Dell's 24" 4K 60Hz panel has an RRP of $599.

Being able to get decent features without a big panel is actually a selling point for many people and so results in a premium.

Acer is offering similarly specced 24" monitor with freesync for much cheaper price. Also I suspect that 165 hz refresh rate on this monitor will be available as OC setting via OSD and not natively supported.

I think most of the panels that have 165hz refresh rate is achieved with OC

When, 25 years ago? 100hz and more isn't exactly new, it's well known since CRT times that 100hz are easily enough for fast paced games. I also doubt very much anything over 120hz is of any use.

Is still is. Or you are telling me that on Windows desktop running day-to-day apps you can tell the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz . People are still confusing refresh rates with frames-per-second...

One can actually tell the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz without running a single app. Just from the movement of your mouse, it is quite easy to tell.

120Hz and 144Hz don't really have much use outside of fast paced games though. It makes the experience a lot better in games like CS:GO and Overwatch though. It still isn't a gimmick.

This makes me really want to get a GSYNC panel for my desktop. Been neglecting that since they cost about as much as a GPU. Now this also has to compete with AOC and their cheaper 24 inch GSYNC 1920x1080 TN panel at $400 but this is about the size I would be looking at and that 165hz 1440p is very tempting.

They (All the brands) should start making 1440p , 144hz monitors without G-Sync or Freesync for the people that just want those specs without paying high price for a technology that they don't care.
For example Asus VG248QE 1080p 144hz monitor, and no G-Sync/Freesync... They should do the same for 1440p/144hz.

For gaming you can't beat a TN panel with 144hz 1ms. (maybe quantum dot will do 1ms MPRT)

Overclocking is a gimmick and is horrible to use cause the image is not crisp. (160,180hz tested)

I love my Acer Predator XB241H with gsync. Hands down the best monitor I have owned yet. I can't wait to see what quantum dot brings cause you cant get any better for gaming on a TN. Dont even talk about VA or IPS because the motion blur is terrible on those monitors.

24" 1080 P is ideal. Great for your vidoe cards frames per second.

I prefer the 24" size for pc gaming but I do wish for a 2k screen with no AA required. I'm sure reading text or in game menus are awfully small at 2k and you need to bump up the hud size or text size to make it bareable.

Does anyone have an issue with 2k on a 24"?
