Sapphire Radeon RX 470D NITRO Pictured, Beats GTX 1050 Ti

I'm closer to 180W under stock air with a nitro+

The lower wattage ones are the xfx they appear to have some preferential binning deal.

I am also curious to know which card is currently using the most efficient VRM setup. The difference between the most efficient and the least efficient is probably a few percent of total board power.

The most efficient vrm section would be Asus or sapphire. Neither of which has the best power consumption. The xfx uses the same phase setup as the older 290x's. The power savings are purely binned gpus

Very interesting. Thanks for chipping in. It would be nice if the future reviews also include core voltage comparisons between different cards as well as ASIC quality readouts.

Did you try the ASIC quality test on your Sapohire card ?

78% if memory serves correct, my younger brother with the XFX XXX is actually a worse ASIC, but the power consumption is lower. His is the short PCB board which I have not looked into the VRM section of. My guess is it is very similar to the AMD design.

Of course it matters. It's the difference between having the card entirely bus-powered, and hence suitable to be dropped into any machine with a PCIe x16 slot, versus requiring external PEG power.

LOL just look around if you don't believe us. I had TERRIBLE ASIC quality (Like <60% lol) and I still got my card to 1400 once the voltage unlocks came out with TRIXX.

Polaris has always been a largely dependent on the "Silicon Lottery" when it comes to overclocking ability, and it's obvious that as newer AIB cards come out they always seem to overclock better and better these days. 14nm is finally catching up with 16nm in quality.

It will surpass it before long. This does ASSUME that glofo can keep their head out of their ass on it. They aren't exactly known for the best quality controls

Was still able to get to like 1390 MHz with enough voltage applied. I would therefore have no problem believing that someone with even an average chip could hit 1450MHz given enough effort.


P.S. I believe it is ~1500 MHz that makes a 480 narrowly beat the 1070. Supposedly that is around what the RX 485 will be clocked at...

No, on AMD side bigger the percentage of ASIC quality, the card is actually much more powerhog and bad OC capabilities. You might get better performance on LN2 or dice but on water and air you really need low ASIC quality. On Nvidia side is vice versa, bigger ASIC is better OC on air(At least was on maxwell on planar, I have no idea about pascal on finfets).

That would be entirely typical of AMD, sadly.
 
Unless they release a version that is both faster and that does not require external power, the 1050 Ti isn't going anywhere. The current fastest factory overclocked 1050 Ti from Zotac does not require external power and the 1050 Ti GPU has been overclocked to over 1.8ghz already. That's a high hurdle for AMD to clear, even with a cut down 470. To cut it down to the point where the external power connector can be eliminated probably wouldn't be a whole lot better than an overclocked 460.
 
And why exactly would it be beating? I never seem to understand all the hype surrounding it The design looks totally hideous and as for me, being the one that is using them and I have never found the design appealing to me to be honestly saying.

I don't think anyone on the planet knows Chinese. A couple of billions know Cantonese, Mandarin, Yue , Min, Wu, Hakka, etc
