DirectX June Update

Microsoft has released an updated version of DirectX for June, although it isn't clear whether the update is just for DirectX 9.0c or for DirectX 10 on Vista as well. Regardless of this, it is still recommended that Vista users update their systems because Vista will benefit from any DirectX 9.0c fixes when playing DirectX 9 games. The web installer is only for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions), whilst the redistributable version will also work with Vista. The funny thing is people complain about the time MS takes to patch things, however when they make patches people still complain.

Yeah but this is directX... and its almost monthly releases. In past years, DX was updated... well it was always a major update - 8.1->9.0 9.0 to 9.0C and such.

We have DX10, yet the updates are all for DX9.0C? Why is it still 9.0C if theres twenty damned versions of it?

little improvements made here and there. As the code begins to get refined, they see that they can still do this and that and add this and make it look like that and what not. They learned alot working on DX10, so of course, they want to apply some of those principles to DirectX9.0c. There is nothing wrong with updates and patches. I for one wouldnt be complaining about monthly updates from MS. Hell, anything to make my computer better and OS better while also improving gaming isnt a hamper on my day ::wink::

I believe they still will update DX9c for some time as there will be games made that still use that code. Eventually (not sure how long it will take) but most games will go to DX10 only.

the way current DX10 games are, DX9 path will be a neccesity, no arguing that. Its just annoying to have contsant releases under the *same name* (9.0c) why cant they call it D or E or F?

Installed fine on my 3 systems, XP, Vista x86 and vista x64. None of the systems even asked for a restart.

Edit: AHAH! i know whats been niggling at me - WHY THE HELL WASNT THIS ON WINDOWS UPDATE.

No really - isnt DirectX big enough for windowsupdate? its never on there!

The web update version is just an update, but the redist version is the whole package - sort of like patches for some games, you can either upgrade from one version to the next or chose the huge download which contains everything.

There are drivers for NF3 to run on vista. Aint got links, but i recall reading it on a lot of forums - Nvidia didnt have direct driver packages, but they used a mix of NF3 and NF4 drivers to make it work (32 bit only, i beleive)
