AMD's ZEN-Supporting X370 Motherboards to be Shown at "New Horizon" Event

AMD's December 13th "New Horizon" event is supposedly (and expectedly) a pivotal moment for the company - a celebration of sorts for the impending launch of their ZEN-based microprocessors. The event, which will be presented mainly by Gametrailers TV-based journalist Geoff Keighley, is now turning up to be a Summit Ridge celebration of sorts as well.

According to recent reports, a small number of motherboard manufacturers should also be in attendance at the event, showing-off their AM4-compatible motherboards based on the top-of-the-line X370 chipset. The X370 is the most advanced version of the Zen-compatible chipsets and is expected to provide extensive overclocking features and up to two third-generation PCIe x16 lanes for multi-GPU systems. Below the X370, the B350 and A320 take over the role of the mid-range and entry-level chipsets respectively. The new chipsets are expected to bring native M.2 NVMe & SATA Express connectivity, PCIe gen 3, DDR4 memory compatibility and USB 3.1 Gen2 to the company's high-end desktop platform for the very first time.





The live event under the motto "New Horizon" takes place almost three weeks before CES 2017, at which AMD is expected to unveil its Summit Ridge family to the general public. As we have previously reported, and according to yet-unconfirmed information, the CPUs are to be marketed as SR7, SR5 and SR3, in approximation to rival Intel's marketing-giants Core i7, i5 and i3 series.

Well, AMD released R9-270 cards before Intel released Z270. Eat that you copyright scum!

Nothing wrong here really. Companies do this kind of stuff regularly to subtly show consumers what their product goes against.

I really hope Zen will go great for AMD and that we can see many successful years up ahead from their camp. Because in the end, all of us will benefit the most from it, either price wise or in larger performance jumps between series for the same price we now pay for tiny hops.

To confuse consumers. AMD's name is tarnished, people see the AMD logo and assume it's trash. But if they see a single letter and the number "7" they assume it's an i7, which means it's good, because marketing. The confusing chipset and CPU naming scheme is being done to try and get users to buy AMD instead of intel, and defeat this notion that AMD=Bad.

It's like that fake design philosophy from apple. "make everything simple to use, because 90% of your consumers are f$%^!(g idiots". Most consumers dont think at all about what they are buying, and AMD is trying to get them to blindly buy their chips instead.

If the current AMD chipsets are anything to go by, yes.

But frankly, nobody will know until AMD releases all the details.

AMD chipsets always offered more PCI-Express lanes compared to intel boards.

Only thing that even makes any kind of difference these days is PCIe lanes and connectivity in terms of slots and ports. Everything else matters pretty much nothing.

I can't find this info. I can see a 6600k offers 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes and a Z170 adds 20 more. How many lanes do I get for an A10-7890k and an A88X? I'm at work, I can't search too much right now

High end AM3+ boards did. Either 2x 16 or 16x8x8 (3 way).

I'm pretty sure that the high-end chipsets for AMD will do simular as well.

Wikipedia. 990fx has 38 PCIE 2.0 lanes and an additional 4 exclusive for the chipset.

you commented as if those things are mutually exclusive. Assuming an AMD product is trash just by the logo can easily be filed under "not thinking about what they are buying". Simply buying a laptop because it has an i7 sticker also fits under "not thinking"

Still waiting and waiting and processor from nowhere. Event with a year delay. On the X360 chip set north bridge is outside the processor which it is ,so far and will be a bottleneck for the FPS .. Year delay for old patents, and where are the real jumps in development ( optical components a.s.f.).
