No, it's not backwards, perf difference is within margins of errors, while battery life is in Samsung's favor, about 8-10%:

It took 480 AIBs ONE BLOODY MONTH to arrive, while ref boards sucked.
Oh, and now there are again rumors of 1080Ti coming in Spring.
So unless Vega can cost 600$-ish and be near Pascal Titan perf wise, it's another fail by Raja.

I'm more interested in knowing whether GloFo can be worse than original Samsung fab at licensed tech.

Considering 4+ GHz 8-core Ryzen chips are coming made at Glofo, I think their 14nm process is actually really good.
