NVIDIA could attempt to steal the limelight from AMD's 2017 "Capsaicin & Cream" launch event for its Ryzen desktop processors, slated for February 28, with a parallel GeForce GTX event along the sidelines of the 2017 Game Developers' Conference (GDC). At this event, the company is expected to launch its next enthusiast-segment graphics card, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. This could at least be a paper-launch, with market availability following through in March.

While the GTX 1080 Ti is a graphics card, and Ryzen a processor (they don't compete), NVIDIA's choice of launch-date could certainly steal some attention away from AMD's big day. Besides launching Ryzen, it wouldn't surprise us if AMD teases its upcoming Radeon "Vega" graphics cards a little more. The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is expected to be based on the same "GP102" silicon as the company's flagship TITAN X Pascal graphics card, and could be positioned very close to the USD $1,000 mark, given that NVIDIA priced the TITAN X Pascal at a wallet-scorching $1,199.

Ha, NVIDIA wishes! GTX 1080 Ti is too expensive for most gamers to care. Ryzen, on the other hand, is upsetting the almost 11 year status quo. GTX 1080 Ti will be a footnote while Ryzen gets mainstream press coverage.

This behavior coming out NVIDIA is expected: very unsportsmanlike.

that is right - a 1 year old architecture, 1000$ GPU (that is not even the top card by any means) will steal the show. I and many will buy that 1000$ card and pair with old intel i5-2500k, because there was little to none improvement in these last 6 "generations" - and none of us cares about CPU's and platform, but that is ok, cuz nvidia told us so.

The only thing wrong about any of this is the price. While it's clear Nvidia are using the complete lack of top end competition to hike prices so high, that's to be expected.
As for releasing a paper launch on the same day as Ryzen, there's nothing unfair about that at all. That's what businesses do when shareholders need to see something good. If AMD looks fantastic on Ryzen, Nvidia can't release nothing. They need to appear to be innovating. We all know it's not innovating with Pascal but if you're going to hate on a paper launch, you need to hate Vega already. It's been shown by AMD for months now yet it's not due till May.
But the prices of the top Nvidia cards is just awful.

I don't think it will steal any of the attention away from Ryzen, because Ryzen is simply a zillion times more important than another GP102 chip with probably even less of it's shaders activated. GTX 1080 Ti simply isn't a big thing, but Ryzen is. I'm also more interested in Vega than in GTX 1080 Ti, because it's something new as well. This is old stuff under a new name. Still, Nvidia undercuting AMD means they respect Vega, nothing more or less.

A new graphics card announcement can not even touch a new cpu series announcement, especially when that cpu can bring back the illusion at least of competition. Ryzen's announcement is a strong reason for Nvidia to avoid that day for a 1080 Ti announcement, not the other way around.

Nobody cares about the 1080 Ti Nvidia. We already know what its about anyway. Its will be 15% faster for double the cost. Not interested.

The Ryzen hype is unstoppable, it just blows past GTX 1080Ti, Nvidia is overestimating itself here.

They picked the wrong moment to go up against AMD. NVidia's CPUs/SoCs are mediocre at best. Nintendo release is few days later, if NVidia marketing was less stupid they would have announced their rehash of old GP102 days before Ryzen launch (to enjoy as much time in the spotlight as possible before they get roflstomped), and then try to piggyback on Switch release ...

But the fact remains, NVidia is non-competitor in the CPU/SoC space. Perhaps they should sign up Keller now?

Pascal wasn't even anything radical. Sure, it delivered performance, can't argue with that, but Vega is what really interests me hugely. The new rasteizer engine, new poly unit, new tesselator unit, going tile based rendering, new memory architecture with HBM2 and also the way how they'll going to probably use main system RAM, it's all really interesting stuff.

And for Ryzen, how is a GPU going to steal CPU's show? It's not even the same. And from the leaked stuff, Ryzen is going to be a mad processor, a proper comeback from AMD. Sure, I'll watch the NVIDIA stream coz I like geeky stuff, but it'll not be of any priority for me lol :D

Sure, we would not care. But, nevertheless the population of nvidiots are overwhelming.

People barely gonna notice Nvidias "new" product behind all the AMD fuss on Feb 28th. This is not a very clever move imo since it's gonna be the other way around AMD stealing Nv's light.

why would nvidia really care about cpu release, they are not competing in the same market? shareholder/investor relations, yes, but beyond that they have no interest.

nvidia is probably acting upon the chance amd announces vega to avoid vega being released (paper launch or not) without an answer from them.

there have been exactly the same rumors about 1080ti every time amd readies to do large announcements that seem to or might involve vega. most notably, in january on ces earlier this year but also back in october and at least once in between.

Only 1000$ it is not that much of a difference than the 599$ launch price that 980Ti had... maybe the next Ti after this will be 1500$

That's what NVIDIA fanboys get, a 1000$ GPU that's not even the highest of the series. Back at launch I was hoping for a 12-16GB 1080 Ti and a 24-32GB Titan. I mean that's what 1k+ is supposed to buy you in 2017 right? Or at least HBM 2.0... Some innovation would be nice NVIDIA. I am pretty sure if it wasn't for AMD launching the RX 400 series, NVIDIA would have released the 1060 as 1070, the 1070 as 1080 and the 1080 as 1080Ti, so they wouldn't have to worry about a "new" chip for some time. Damn AMD!!!! You ruined NVIDIAs plans.

btw, atm Ryzen's spotlight cannot be stolen.

Ha, Nvidia would be stupid to launch the 1080 ti at the same time as Ryzen. The 1080 Ti only appeals to a small group of people, especially at the price Nvidia is launching it at. Ryzen is HIGHLY anticipated, the 1080 Ti is just a repeat of Nvidia gouging that everyone already expects.
