AMD Ryzen 7-1800X Cracks 5.20 GHz OC with LN2 and All Eight Cores Enabled

I would understand that statement in regards to Polaris chips (which show oh so much better perf/watt when downclocked a bit) AND have no so good power consumption at stock. But saying that about Ryzen, using inferior fab process, yet beating Intel at perf/watt? Why would they go for lower stock clocks???
Nit saying a word about the choice... it is what it is though. Little headroom for all cores on ambient.

A bug maybe somewhere in the package outside of the cores? I think there isn't any specifically cpu's arch problem in reaching higher clocks (as power consumption shows imho) but it might be that chipset is into the CPU and this creates some other problems into the package. I think they can address this in a few months (or with Zen+ in a year or so) and come out with a better clocked series as they did with BD and PD where 8150 and 8350 had the same power consumption with a 10% diff in performance due to their 10% clock diff. Regardless of Ryzen's oc potential though, the most interesting thing is that stock performance, price and power consumption put this CPU in top position on market value if the latest leaks are reliable.

We can always circle back to stock and talk how good it will be, no doubt...

... until you overclock. But the BIG picture there is few do outside of the enthusiast realm.

Here is to hoping what you say will come true. Can't say I'm holding my breath for any refresh that will hit 5Ghz+.

Just because its 95W doesn't mean a thing. I mean, look at Bulldozer on up... 125W chips scaling to well over 8Ghz!! Also consider that its packing a ton more transistors into a smaller space. This makes it more difficult to get the heat out and where they may be seeing an issue. I wonder if this was a 3.2Ghz chip, but boosted all to 3.6Ghz and one to 4GHz (or something like that -arbitrary guesses here) until they saw they needed the clocks when considering H2H. I mean hell, people that don't overclock are going to look at say zOMG RYZEN beats t3h Int3lzzzzz just because of that performance. Of course, they still have to get the yields out too... but, that could be at the top end of their power/thermal envelope...

Sorry for the edits.. made a correction... typos.. :)

For an 8 core, 16 thread CPU, I think that's an impressive frequency. Besides, this is still an early revision.

My stepmothers 'printer.

You could always give Ubuntu a try. :P

Weird.. this happened a few days ago... lol.

As I said, it's scary to see 5.2ghz on ln2 considering we are boosting to 4ghz. That doesn't bode well for air or water cooling. I'm thinking we are topping out below 4.5ghz on water...likely closer to 4ghz on air. Remeber, the 6900k starts at 3.2ghz.. 400 mhz below ryzen. ;)

Feels like they have pushed these things pretty far as is.

4.5 GHz on water? You're being overly enthusiastic by about half a GHz.

Well, it has record low IPC though, worse than Phenom iirc.

Anand said 4.8.

Mine is in the ball park figures of the Haswell, only 2011-3 really has enough of a lead to make any real impact compared to 1155,1151,1150

Complain to the producer of said printer. Also, I doubt that the printer driver stopped working because it is missing an extension only available on Kaby Lake and Ryzen to begin with.

Let the ad hominems begin. I do not own MS stock, nor do I work for MS, have never worked for MS, nor will I ever. I am just someone who is sick and tired of seeing people spout bullshit. Not an ill-informed opinion of a layman, no, but unadulterated class-A, no-connection-to-reality-whatsoever, capital-B bullshit. Which is exactly what Arrakis' post was.

47% is still using W7. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I never claimed there was, I can understand the reasoning for it in a lot of cases. We still use Windows Server 2003 for some legacy software applications. But guess what, we also don't expect MS to back-port Hyper-V in those machines, or give us an x64 upgrade path. We don't expect them to give us Office 2010 on Office 365. You know why? Because that we be really freaking stupid ideas to put forth.

You put forth your reasons for not wanting to upgrade to W10, which are mostly based on FUD itself, but that is your choice. MS granting lay users less choice in update matters honestly is a very understandable choice, which you'd understand if you ever have had to support end-user systems. I don't give our users, even our first and second-line support, a single drop of lee-way in their selection of updates. Resets of user preferences after updates have happened in every previous version of Windows I've used since 95, so have messed up updates and data loss caused by a migration, so why single out W10 for things that have been issues since time immemorial, especially pre-SP1?

I'm in no way claiming that W10 is some sort of major revolution. The use of DX12 will show its use in time. I don't use the tiles, but they are perfectly disable-able, which is what I did. Just like I disabled the interface in W7 because I preferred the classic XP interface. The app store changes NOTHING about the fact that you can install any software you wish. If this disturbs you, using a smartphone or tablet must be hell on earth for you.

Also, if W10 offers absolutely nothing over 7, why are you demanding that MS back-port stuff? I have completely lost the logic in any of these arguments.

Trying to flame people in this thread for not liking win 10 clearly points out you have some interest in MS employee or otherwise. It's my opinion and clearly a joke at that, but you sir are taking things way out of hand and spouting your own 'fud' as fact. Sit back relax and look at things from other people's perspective for at least half a second.

How about everyone just stop arguing here it's getting stupid if you ask me

Well, thats pretty impressive since all 8 cores are active. Though I still wonder how well these chips will overclock on air or water.

High 3 GHz range, maybe 4.0 GHz.

Who Are You Talking to? Lol....

Anyway, I believe on 1800x, they turbo to 4ghz on 2c/4t along with XFR 4.1. All cores go to 3.6 and xfr 3.7.

Stop the windows 7 bickering.... benchmarks are run on windows 7 or 2008r2 because of how M$ does the clocks on 8 and 10 can allow for clockskew ala cheating on timed benchmarks.

If you go to HWbot.org you will see this in the general rules. Any system that can adjust blk after boot cannot use windows 8/8.1/10 or the results will be voided.

Or comparing to stock 1800X benches... a ~30% overclock with ~53% performance boost?.... in the real world it does not scale like that! You can't get more for less.

I seem to remember that Athlon X2's scaled like that when you went past 3.3ghz. Maybe I was dreaming though.
I also seem to remember an emoticon that was scratching it's chin...... Cuz that's what I'm doin now....

Whenever you get a big performance lift it is because you removed a subsystem bottleneck.
Cinebench absolutely loves memory bandwidth. And Ryzen can take ddr4 3600...
My guess is the stock benchmarks have them memory bound... and the LN2 run is fully optimized.

High 3 GHz range, maybe 4.0 GHz.
Those are the base frequencies, I hope the go beyond that LOL.

I was speaking out loud, just thought it seemed at least decent for all 8 cores enabled though I hope they can do better later and I hope the chips air and water cooled results are at least in the 4.5ghz range.

So the already listed frequencies (3.6 base, 4.0 boost) are the limit? Quite the leap of faith.

4 GHz is not stock on all cores. If you disable cores and run 2C/4T you can safely expect low 4 GHz range (4.1-4.2).

No sure what you are arguing about. Ryzen is a great CPU so far and I cant wait for the reviews and benchmarking. I'm taking one for myself no doubt. When? It depends of the reviews price and I need to finally decide which model to pick.
The OC is fine thing but please all of you don't forget it is a feature only. What matters is the CPU itself what it delivers in terms of new stuff. Performance/price also. Everybody got stuck with intel's new gen IPC gain 1%-5% done with OC'ing CPU's mostly by intel itself. And now big fuss about that AMD scored 5Ghz++ on LN2. What a bummer i'm not buying this crap is that it? I fell from a chair with laugh seeing what you guys are saying really.

Yes, people disagreeing with you obviously have to be bought out in some way. Heaven forbid it should turn out someone has a better grasp of things than you do. It may very well be your opinion, but that not exclude you for getting called out on bullshit. Neither does trying to suddenly pass it off as a joke. Please detail and either refute or rebut my so-called "FUD".

You were actively trying to foment the idea that MS is this big, evil organization that willingly hampers the usage of previous versions of windows, which is a downright lie for which not a single shred of evidence exists. Yet somehow I am "spouting FUD" for calling out bullshit when I see it? Please, outside of the "just-know-enough-to-build-my-own-system-and-install-the-OS"-world, no-one takes this crap seriously.
