Just the other day I ripped an 10-album discography picked up for $9 in the wrap. My optical also reads DVD and BD on a regular basis, so I still have a need for one.

Not upgrading to any UHD compatible drive though... they can wait.

In July last year I built a Mitx i6500 rig to take a drive just like this. Very unhappy that Kaby Lake is required. Can't justify changing the CPU just for UHD. In the future I will stick to AMD.

4K Blu-ray playback? So does this require Kaby Lake or something? And $130 is awfully low for a 4K BD player.

Xbox One S can play 4K blu-ray out of the box and it's only $289 with BF1 bundle. Even if you don't game on console, it's still a good deal considering you get 500G HDD and a PC compatible controller (retail $59).

Xbox One S can play 4K blu-ray but it is very noisy. The controller is not as nice as a PS3 controller. Really annoyed PS4 Pro omitted UHD drive. Agree with comments above re streaming as we have 800MB/s ADSL2+ and have third world internet in one of the world's richest countries. There is a material difference between a good blu-ray and a streamed/downloaded file. We live in a time of amazing TVs that lack comparable source material.

Like said before, cases without optical drive bays are becoming more and more common these days. I traded my BD-ROM drive for couple of beers since I just didn't have anything use for it.
