People said the same thing for Nehalem when it came out. Bad for gaming, good for server.

The bad at gaming at launch didn't hurt it's reputation, I'm sure Ryzen will not be hurt by it's "poor" gaming performance given a few years.

Until then, it's still quite sub par for it's price compared to the featureset intel is offering. Ill believe the future when it matters, because amds bets lately have been jack all useful.

Give it some time, even after Pentiums 4 HT it took a while for devs to correctly make use of 2 threads and 1 core.

The games do run perfectly fine. Who needs 200FPS anyway, just so your having an advantage in CS:GO?

It's a good chip that does both in between, both 3d / modelling / web / video and games.

Zen2+ will fix these issues.

Here, a nice i7 vs Ryzen game comparison: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-vs-intel-kaby-lake-gaming,4977.html

I dont play most of those games anyway, and if i do i'd give a crap ass to play above 75hz since my WQHD screen is'nt able to produce more hertz.

What superior feature set does Intel offer? More PCIe lanes?

If anything, Intel is over priced for it's feature set. Are twice as many PCIe lanes really deserving of twice the price?

Exactly.
Same applies for A64 A64 X2 and finally Nehalem.
It's almost 10 years since nehalem, it's about time we got more cores again...

When a game has 8 tasks, it might run better if they are placed on one CCX(4core/8thread) to make the most of the L3 cache. Of course it's only when the 4 tasks are light but games often have light tasks.

But the Windows scheduler recognizes additional cores and normally uses main cores so it uses two CCXes. That can be inefficient.

You'd only see it comparing Win7 performance vs Win10 performance.

I actually find Ryzen to load windows faster than my Intel rigs, and it seems to have a bit less latency in doing certain things. The only thing that is a bit disappointing with Ryzen is its relatively low clockspeed. There are ZERO other problems, really, at this point, that I can find.

I'm feeling a stepping improvement may resolve initial batch issues. Now if the board makers would get their boards reliability Akin to the Sabertooth 990FX r2.0 and CHV then it would be a good platform.

Yeah, there have only been a couple good AMD boards for 990FX, and I can happily say that ASRock's Taichi is one of those boards already.

The current AM4 Taichi?

yep. You'll also find I'm not the only one saying so. It's really that good.

So, Microsoft has decided to eliminate any Windows 7 or 8.1 advantages on Ryzen systems by simply blocking updates for systems with Ryzen (and Kaby Lake) CPUs. Quote follows:

When you try to scan or download updates through Windows Update, you receive the following error message:

Unsupported Hardware
Your PC uses a processor that isn’t supported on this version of Windows and you won’t receive updates.

Additionally, you may see an error message on the Windows Update window that resembles the following:

Windows could not search for new updates
An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer.
Error(s) found:
Code 80240037 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

We recommend that you upgrade Windows 8.1-based and Window 7-based computers to Windows 10 if those computers have a processor that is from any of the following generations:
  • Intel seventh (7th)-generation "Intel Core" processor or a later generation
  • AMD seventh (7th)-generation (“Bristol Ridge") processor or a later generation
  • Qualcomm “8996" processor or a later generation

We can just start with thunderbolt, intel NIC, u.2, and yeah faster m.2's is quite a selling point to people too.
