ASUS Intros the VG245Q Value Gaming Monitor

ASUS introduced the VG245Q, a 24-inch gaming-grade monitor targeting a sub-$250 price point. This monitor comes with 1 ms response time (GTG), and support for AMD FreeSync technology. Under the hood is a TN-film panel with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution, 250 cd/m² maximum brightness, 170°/160° viewing angles (H/V), and flicker-free LED brightness adjustment. The monitor comes with display presets optimized for the various genres of gaming (racing sims, RTS, RPG, FPS, etc). Inputs include one DisplayPort 1.2a (required for FreeSync), two HDMI 1.4a, and one D-Sub.

Yea, even $240 for that isn't value. I just bought a ViewSonic 27" Full HD with FreeSync up to 75Hz for 145€.

However, I think you people are missing the 1ms GTG pixel timing, which translates to 2ms any color to any other color. That's not bad at all.

No, I didn't mean 240Hz. I meant what I wrote. 144Hz is more than good-enough for majority of gamers' needs, and cost about 3 times the 60Hz ones which are used by a overwhelming majority. And before saying "old school", you should have a look at the resolution thingy too. 1080p is "new tech" in your school?

WTF is wrong with ASUS? There are 1080p 75Hz FreeSync IPS displays for like $120-140.
I could get it if this new one had an IPS panel and this surely great stand for $240. But I'll never understand a 75Hz TN for that price.

Love the fact people only think about themselves. This monitor can be good for consoles competitive e-sports because of low input lag according to display lag. Not every monitor needs to be 144hz IPS.

May be you don't quite understand the "competitive e-sports" thing very well. And nobody asked for 144Hz AND IPS. Nobody needs IPS for "competitive e-sports". 144Hz, on the other hand, can make a world of difference. Fast-paced FP shooters NEED the smooth movement visuals to be able to aim and hit moving targets quickly. A good GPU and low-latency internet is only half the story. IPS panels have a TINY bit higher colour gamut, which is totally useless in "competitive e-sports". Educate yourself about the things you say and you will LOVE the actual facts without out-of-place sarcasm.

Ok, clearly my sense of humor was too subtle for you. That statement was said in jest.. However, I have 240hz displays and the difference between them and 144hz is distinct.

Though I was serious about the pixel response times, which are very respectable.

I did understand you perfectly. And if you wanted it to be a joke, it was a terrible way to put it. You should work a bit more towards that "subtlety". You know, subtle doesn't mean "non-existent".

Those response times are compleatly standard for TN at this point. This monitor is a joke. Aside from a nice stand there are better choices at nearly half this price.
I paid 200 for a similar product (trade freesync and a nice stand for 144htz) in 2014. Thats rediculous.
Also please remember just because it has a claimed response time of 1ms doesn't mean it actually does. Standards for making that claim are pretty lax.

I both agree and disagree. I can spot the difference in a sidebyside comparison, but I do feel that 100htz is fine for me. But I'm also know others have better senses to me.
But ultimately, none of that is the point in this thread. The point is that ASUS is selling an old civic like it's a BMW, just because they gave it a paint job and a spoiler.
