The rumor mill turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. However, some of those really do turn to reality, like recent accounts of an AMD Polaris 20 chip surfacing in the latest RX 500 series. This time, Intel is in the crosshairs, with the company's high-performance Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X desktop components being pegged for release between June 19th and July 9th. This would place an announcement on the new chipset and CPUs debut to drop around Computex 2017, which kicks off on May 30 and runs through June 3 in Taipei.

Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X parts are supposed to use the same LGA 2066 socket, with Skylake-X said to include anywhere between six to 10 cores, support quad-channel DDR4 memory and have a metric ton of PCIe 3.0 lanes. Kaby Lake-X parts, meanwhile, are reportedly limited to just four cores, dual-channel memory and just 16 PCIe lanes from the CPU - which gives an impression of a simple, Kaby Lake desktop CPUs being repackaged for the new socket.

(And yes, inquisitive readers, that was a random reference to Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time" in the first line of this article.)

Being released ahead of time can only mean Ryzen has rattled their cages well enough...

That would be my take on it as well. Especially with the upcoming HEDT, 12 and 16-core Ryzen platform.

The only possible explanation for Intel to push forward the launch of any product.

Benchmark Scores 3050 scores good 15-20% lower than average, despite ASUS's claims that it has uber cooling.
geizhals (price portal), for what its worth (they can't really check sales, only user interest):

Why would I invest in Kaby Lake-X if normal Kaby Lake already offers the same things?

When going up from 115X to 2066 you want those 4 channel memory and extra PCIe lanes, no?

I see they are using the same cpu only modifying it to fit 2066 socket and make more money out of old CPUs...

Yeah :) let's all buy new X series from intel so that you can leave in on the shelf getting dust :) Guys it will definitely get a tremendous boost in IPC over 2% faster than I7 7700k :O can you believe that ? that's just awesome :D
Well a joke :) it will get 3% :p
But seriously I wonder what would be the clock rates. Intel always like to push the clocks a bit up. Maybe they will release new X line 4c/8t with 5Ghz stock? well they would need probably since in some games 7700k is already maxed out.

Intel thinks adding an X to the name makes it go faster, I think.

Next step is they make a red logo, red logos OC better. Oh, wait...

Hope AMD kicks their collective asses and gets like 30-40% market share with Ryzen...

If Intel is really bothered by Ryzen then they will hurry up Cannonlake. I don't think they are very worried about Ryzen though. They might have to lower their prices a little but they are loaded with cash anyway. I would like to hear more from AMD what they plan for the future as far as CPUs go.

Oh i don't think they're worried either, no.

My comment was solely in regard to consumer mentality. I have no favorites where facts are concerned, bought Intel, bought AMD, will again :)

I have faith in Intel, a lot of people wait X299 and LGA2066 before decision what to do.
Motherboards vendors save Intel for few months, there is small number of motherboards, still no high-end option for AM4, only ASUS Crosshair 6 Hero.
But if Intel fail and if 6 core is slower than AMD 1800X and 8 core Intel too expensive than I see many people with Z97, Z170, X79, X99 and previous generations on AM4.

But this will be very interesting chipset and Kaby Lake -X could be very fast per core.
That mean fast 4 cores will still stay dominant for gamers and in next 2 years at least.
But people expect a lot from budget variant of 6 core Skylake-EX ... He will be most wanted.
Imagine if Intel 6 core is fast as AMD 8 core. That would be awesome but small number of people believe in that.

It;'s not easy task for Intel definitely 600-700$ model similar or faster than AMD will be to expensive for many people. AMD sit on nice position up to 500$ with many cores and good for working not for gaming only but very low power consumption, and I see 450-500$ as max for CPU. Most people will choose between 1700X and Intel new generation. Because of that is important to Intel give budget option. With X99 people bought 6 core CPU and motherboard and memory for 600$ on discounts few months after launch.

I must say one more thing... If Intel fail to launch 8 core model or 6 core model faster than 1800X for up to 550$ they will lost 20% of customers instantly in that moment.
That mean whole LGA2066 will be joke and toy of people who don't know how money they have and who see nothing if 500$ model beat 1700$ model in Cinebench.
Mostly people wait because memory and lack of motherboards similar to Godlike and Rampage Class. After they show up and Intel confirm that ask 200$ more for same performance they will cross on AM4 and AMD after many many years.
Intel fans could forgive for something... Example bigger power consumption than AMD.
If Intel 6 core need more power than AMD 8 core. But they will not pay more for weaker or similar CPU with bigger power consumption because it's Intel and more for motherboard because it's mobo with Intel chipset and at the end same RIG will cost 500$ more and numbers in benchmarks will be same.
If Intel think to force high frequency with 4 cores now when they couldn't push more cores because AMD dominate they lost even before they try.
Suddenly i7-7700K and Cannon Lake with 10nm and problems become last hope of Intel. What 4 core with 5GHz default frequency and 100 MHz for OC for 300$.
And no multi threaded benchmarks in reviews?
But if Intel lost by AMD in dekstop it's nothing what will happen if AMD launch Opteron with more cores and better than Xeon for 1/3 of price. We know that Intel Xeon cost up to 5-7.000 and companies bought hundreds of them... If they start pay Opteron 1500-2000 Intel market will collapse.
They not fall on story, no fans, favorisation, loyalty and everything is about price-performance, nothing else.
I still have hope Intel 6-8 cores few percent better than 1800X for 550-580$.
More chance have 8 cores and price drop than 6 core, 6 core only with Ryzen 5.
