So, Ryzen is so crap that Intel is scrambling to compete with it? That's what I like to see. :D Definitely gonna wait for Coffee Lake now before upgrading my CPU.

I reckon that Ryzen version 2 will fix that IPC deficit and give us some real head-to-head competition, the likes of which we haven't seen since 2005.

You are thick as a brick aren't you.... You will get the same 60+ fps with a Ryzen in any game

I'm thick but you show, I'm correct.
ok.

That gap will widen as gpu's get stronger .

Next years mid range Volta mid range gpu will = a 1080ti and a Ryzen system will become cpu limited.
Take away the gpu limiting settings today with a overclocked Pascal XP @ 1080p and Ryzen is much slower.
That's a little preview for whats to come @ 1440p with a 2080ti next year.

I'm waiting for a good 4k display, so I'm stuck with 1080p till then.
I have a good 2tb ssd
16gb of ram seems to be enough.
My gtx1070 kills 1080p.
My i5 6500 @ 4.5 needs an upgrade.

I don't need to save $75, I have a job that pays me.

why do I feel like i'm being attacked for wanting the best or better?

Well for one you're going to need more than $75 it seems. Correct me if i'm wrong but you're going to need another mobo? Second you really did come off fanboyish when you made your statements about how everything is going to crush Ryzen as if you had one. You could've easily said that will crush whatever Intel chip you currently have and that would've made your post look a lot more sensible. But you targeted AMD as if this was some battle going on or something..

You started by lauding Intel's performance over RyZen yet now don't need more then 60 FPS, wow your a label and epeen blinded asshat you could have got 60+ fps from an Rx 480 for half the price or a gtx1060 will drive a meager 1080p fine , go you.
You also wrong about 4k monitors(many are good) though if i extrapolate your meaning you want 4k 140hz+ gsync and expect a titan to manage this, hahaaaaaa genius level tech knowledge.
Close up 28" is very useable and my 49" 4k does casual gaming fine a ty

Again my monitor is limiting me to 60Hz, why bother?

True, but he'd need to replace the motherboard to go AMD. I believe in his original post he was hoping for a drop-in replacement.

I've said it since Ryzen came out: for a while, the choice will come down to one's usage pattern. So I wouldn't read too much into anyone saying he prefers Intel over AMD or the other way around.

According to DigiTimes, sources among Taiwan-based PC vendors have indicated that Intel's upcoming Basin Falls platform, which includes Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors on a new X299 chipset, will be unveiled at Computex 2017 (May 30th, June 3rd), in Taipei - two months earlier than expected.
The launch window has been known for a long time, and even the Computex event for months.

Back to the news piece, these Basin Falls-based products are expected to be revealed near the E3 gaming show in June, with the official release at the end of the month. It is currently expected that the Skylake-X series features three 140W processors with 6, 8 and 10-core designs, while the Kaby Lake-X series carries a 112 W, quad-core processor. In August, Intel will release a top-end 12-core Skylake-X processor. These will probably enter a collision course with AMD's expected X399 platform, which again boast of higher core-counts - and probably better performance-per-watt - than Intel's offerings, with 12 and 16-core processors (with double the threads) being available.
There has been some interesting "leaks" of Xeon "Gold/Platinum", which will be competing with AMD's X399. Multiple sources points to changes in the cache hierarchy, if true, this should apply to Skylake-X too.

I could care less about a company, I like upgrading, and having the fastest gaming system, just stated some facts .
I don't mind paying an extra 75$ to have the fastest gaming cpu.
*couldn't. I don't know where the 'not' went when the phrase travelled across the pond.

Go and compare all CPUs at 4k resolutions then buy your new setup , that's all i can be arsed saying ,such comparisons stopped me swapping this ageing rig right now , i have the cash for an 1800X now yet I've not bitten , largely also because I'm not biased either, if shit works it works and i agree 2 480s isn't optimal but No card in my price range does 4k good enough on its own and i don't overpay for tech on principle ,you epean FPS demons can have the best ,I'll take cheap yet capable and flexible all day.

You will need your unicorn CPU i admit also 1 unicorn class GPU or two of Nvidias (given your bias that anything Amd is cheap and shit re Rx480)best/biggest cash cow GPUs.
I have to say I'm feckin loving the irony of sitting with a 5ghz capable 8core here that when I bought it the Intel fanbol Muppets laughed because i needed loads a power and hertz to equal Sandy's fat and wide integer single core performance yet now Intel is in that exact same seat to beat RyZen it's Amd that's sub par because it can't do 5ghz.
Times change.not.

If you compare todays cpu's at 4k even with a gtx1080ti It will look like the cpu's are equal in power.
I agree. That's called a gpu bottleneck.

I don't buy $2,000 systems for just today .

I've had my motherboard for about a year and a half, its on its second gpu, soon to be third.
NEXT YEAR I will have a 7700k or 8800k (six core) cpu @ full overclock and a spanking brand new 2080ti .
The 2080ti (Volta) will be/ should be about 60% faster than a gtx1080ti.
4k games will be playing at over 60fps with a fast cpu.

Following me?

In short , todays 1440p with a gtx1080ti, is next years 4k with a faster gpu's 2080ti.
Ryzen cpu's will look even slower next year as the 4k gpu bottleneck is relieved.

So unless you plan on upgrading you Ryzen cpu again in 18 months to Ryzen 2...................

see what I'm saying?

what is unicorn? fastest , best?
A 7700/8800k @ 4.6+ and a new Volta 2080 gpu (releasing this year near the holidays, did you here?)
will push that monitor fine. Even a gtx1080ti overclocked will be ok for that monitor, not ideal but "ok"

Yes but you're theorising wrong , RyZen has more internal bandwidth and better memory use , so it will age well compared to its present company in new games.
Plus I game at max settings @4k now not in the future so both i enjoy and i know , your 2080ti is not going to do 4k@144hz and that CPU bottleneck at 4k will be sorted by RyZen+ or 3 by the time it even occoureth, some time in four years just as pciex 4 turns up on mobos.
And i last swapped motherboard five years ago.
You will swap twice more at least before i here you call me out with your unicorn spec Intel rig I'll swap once and still be within a few FPS of you , i doubt your rig is either cheaper or faster then mine now though too.
Unicorn = what you wanted= 6core12thread intel@5ghz.

Indeed ok ,but not anywhere near 144hz@4k

Wtf , i couldn't care less for you biased and poorly written opinion.

Epeen alert.

Swallow this fact then AMD are back in town and Intel are shitting themselves as there stock shelves fill with dual and quad cores and this will continue given that's what they make most.

Oh you want a 6 core 12thread 5ghz unicorn ,you might have to wait a while for that unicorn unless you have phase change or liquid nitrogen.

Luckily they have people like you about.

It's funny, you people are toting more cores and threads on AMD like they are god's gift to the computer world. Currently yes, AMD wins in performance per dollar and they do have more cores.... But the even the fact that Intels CURRENT cpus still manage to beat out AMD's BRAND NEW cpus in gaming is kind of embarrassing in my opinion.

Honestly, what do you people do that you need "MOAR CORES!"? 'Cause last I checked the performance gain from "MOAR CORES!" really isn't all that great. Especially when you compare AMD and Intel on a core vs core basis.

I don't game at pesant resolutions(1080p) so your truths don't apply here I'm affraid and hence present intel quads wouldn't be better for me.
And in my use case below(crunching/folding /useful work) a 209 £RyZen 1600 pulverised everything Intel sell upto a grand ,so realise I'm not about just games , but the 2-5fps intel have at 4k (not 1080p)ain't worth shit to me using 2 4k displays, certainly not verses the productivity and power savings on RyZen.
However I am not biased and no i don't own one I'll wait ,I'm waiting for the hedt to appear and Vega because it's not the CPU liming my gaming at 4k it's still the GPU.

And we don´t play at peasant refresh rates (60hz)

It's funny, you people are toting more cores and threads on AMD like they are god's gift to the computer world. Currently yes, AMD wins in performance per dollar and they do have more cores.... But the even the fact that Intels CURRENT cpus still manage to beat out AMD's BRAND NEW cpus in gaming is kind of embarrassing in my opinion.

Honestly, what do you people do that you need "MOAR CORES!"? 'Cause last I checked the performance gain from "MOAR CORES!" really isn't all that great. Especially when you compare AMD and Intel on a core vs core basis.
Roll on 2019-2020 or sooner when Intel changes it's tune to" Moar cores it's the future", who's this you people ,as i said I'm not buying RyZen and I'm not buying this either.
