Tenda Unveils New USB 3.0 AC1300 Wireless Network Adapter

Tenda Technology Inc., a subsidiary of Shenzhen Tenda, is eager to announce its new U12 AC1300 Wireless Network Adapter. The U12 uses the faster USB 3.0 interface for better throughput on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands. Its an excellent companion for users not fully leveraging the bandwidth of their gigabit router, using dated built-in networking adapters with slower performance.

The U12 is a dual-band adapter with transfer speeds as fast as 867Mbps on the 5GHz band. It harnesses 256-QAM technology to break the limitations of the 802.11n protocol, achieving a higher 400Mbps throughput on the 2.4GHz band. Users can even select the specific operating frequency bands seldom used in their environment to avoid radio interference issues and network congestion.

So much bullsh!ttery in one paragraph....

Not even in the slightest...

Weak signal is still a weak signal - USB 3.0 wont cure this
DHCP not distributing IP addresses to your device - USB 3.0 wont cure this
your device is DoA or suffers connection drops because of bad firmware - USB 3.0 wont cure this
Device wont connect to a network because windows hasnt assigned an IP to the device - USB 3.0 wont cure this

It wont offer 'better connectivity' though USB 3.0 is indeed better than USB 2.0 or 1.0. If youre looking for 'performance' nothing screams performance more then gigabit lan. Youre on a wireless, you'll suffer some latency and slower transfer rates -- deal with it.

No....
No it wont. Tenda make budget products though some lie more to the upper ends of low budget so cost slightly more than other low budget devices. if your device overheats and dies It wont be because youre not using the device in a USB 3.0 port. Connections can still be dropped. firmwares can still be junk and USB 3.0 wont fix these issues.

Again, No.....

Rubber banding can be caused by issues both client & ISP side. I have gamed on 54mb/s dongles (remember the Belkin & netgear 54g USB dongles?) I suffered no rubber banding. The only time i suffered rubber banding was due to weak signal causing latency issues or my ISP/Local Exchange having a full scale meltdown the size of North Korea.

Never had problems streaming youtube at 720 or 1080p though 54g isnt a thing any more and i dont have the 54g hardware to test streaming 1080p or bluerays from my NAS.


I have USB dongles that do 72mbps and they dont have any problems at all but they are wireless N so theres not a huge lot to compare vs Wireless G - Wireless N is going to be faster by default.

It's pretty well known that USB 3.0 devices put out RF interference right in the 2.4 GHz band. It seems pretty stupid to make a 2.4 GHz WiFi adapter that uses USB 3.0. Either Tenda put in a lot of work to shield the crap out of their connector and the radio in the dongle, or this adapter is a big dud.
