Raja Koduri: You Can Use Vega Frontier Edition for Gaming; But You Should Wait

I gotta say that at this point it seems like the Vega chips themselves are totally ready, but AMD just needs to receive some shipments of HBM2.

Hopefully gaming Vega can still come out in July, and hopefully the extra couple months will be used to get even higher clockspeeds. :/

Always Massive Delays.

We have been waiting since the mighty 290x for a good high end GPU (fury was too limited). But even if you consider fury good, it's been nearly two years. Nvidia has dominated with pascal. How long are AMD buyers supposed to wait for raja to get off of his behind and release something?

At this point the people that couldn't wait for Vega, have already bought a 1080 Ti. Waiting another month will matter little to whoever is still waiting / happy with their current cards.

It would be better for AMD to wait longer and make sure Vega beats the Titan XP at this point.

Is there any indication consumer Vega will be available after one month? I think not.

I have absolutely no idea what this statement is supposed to mean.
I mean, everybody knows professional video cards can be used to run games, but the driver lacks the appropriate profiles and uses resource allocation that's not optimal for gaming. Why did this guy had to say that again?
Because people (the users) are stupid, buy stuff and complain?

Nope. But one can hope.

Again, I think consumer Vega will come out as soon as HBM2 is available. Could be 2 weeks, and it could be 3 months.

You have more patience than I do. I gave them until last week. I just can't believe this whole thing keeps getting pushed more and more. @birdie has this right wAitMD is ringing way too true.

It has always been slated for H1, this was announced MONTHS AGO. If you couldn't wait that long you should have bought Nvidia months ago. Now if you cave at the last second you likely end up loosing a couple hundred bucks when Vega drops and Nvidia drops its prices to match.

You can bet hynix has been lying about it the whole time, too. AMD can't give a release date if hynix swears they'll have chips any day now...and never does.

Haha people are silly right?

I had a friend say "If Vega matches the 1080 Ti I might get it, but I am not gonna wait much longer".

Then don't! You know what matches the 1080 Ti? The 1080 Ti! If that's what you want, buy it now lol.

I personally don't think it offers enough performance for the price. Fury Nitro's were $250 a month ago, and 1080 Ti is 300% the price for like 80% more performance.

Actually I wont have any money loss with this whether the price drops or not...It has been slated for H1, with AMD rumoring this month for months as well. I don't know if you know this or not, but June/July for consumer cards is H2. This assumes they actually release it for purchase in June/July and it isn't just a BS paper launch.

I personally don't care what color the card is. I was tired of hot and loud RX480's. I wanted 1080Ti like performance and waited patiently for 6 months for it. It still isn't out.

Oh and the Fury's aren't that great, I have been playing with those as well and they can't even match a 980Ti in most games.

The 480->1080Ti swap is probably one of the best swaps I have done in a long time. I am hoping vega is a similar experience if it is I may end up swapping out to one of those. We will see. AMD has a habit of not delivery on promises.

Buddy it depends what games you play.

I benched against a guy's 2.1GHz 1070 and won in every bench we did: Metro: LL, DE:MD, Bioshock Infinite (I think this one was a tie), and BF1. If all you play is broken Batman games and Anno, well I guess get a 980 Ti lol.

Is your favorite game 3D Mark?

Then you weren't ever waiting for Vega and don't care about high-end GPUs. Did this really need to be explained to you?
That's not a very reasonable assumption. "High end" is a relative term. What matters is the pricing. And just because I want a 570/580 now doesn't mean I wouldn't grab a Vega if it was out before. I hope I have explained it enough for you to understand.

My least favourite game is, pay the power bill.
But you do not mind paying twice as much for the card for half the performance? Look what Ryzen did to Intel & is not done with them. HEDT (High End Desktop) called the ThreadRipper will also be introduced. Naples err Epyc is also coming. I own http://amdnaples.com/ and a builder of Operating Systems as a hobby. Big money across the board.

Let me break down what you consider a delay In Vega. Don't have a gaming card? Vega is 1H and will be as AMD said. Many have said limited supply of HBM2, this is true. As AMD has known this for 9 months, why not drop high enterprise Level that will not be bought in massive quantities at a much higher price point? HBM2 ramps up let's hit our enthusiast market.

You probably should also pay closer attention to benchmarks the Fury benched posted above is 2X Anti-aliasing (no accident I am fairly sure), which basically makes the card work harder against the NVidia's 1X, basically as the shills did on initial Ryzen launch playing games at 720p. Do you want to buy a Vega to play games in 720p?

Should have "Multi-quoted" it, sorry for providing answers to multiple people on a intelligent level ;)

TRIGGERED!!!!!

Does changing to 1x anti-aliasing magically make AMD products competitive with NV's? (WTF does that even mean... pretty sure there's no such thing. 1x is "off", and 2x is "basically free" on any modern card) NOPE! Sure doesn't so why even bring it up?

Fact is AMD has no compelling or competitive gaming products in any product stack. Ryzen is a crap gaming CPU, and we all know it. Vega is 2 years late to the party.

Hey guys, less frame drops and less stuttering is bad gaming CPU. Sad. Fake Performance.

What on earth are you talking about? I have a 1080Ti not a 980Ti. I would wager there isn't a game that any current AMD card performs better in, than the 1080Ti.

As I said I have played with all of those 1070/RX480(in xfire)/980Ti(in tri-SLi)/1080Ti/R9 Furys (in xfire). None of them have equaled the 1080Ti, minus 3 980Ti's with heavy overclocks.

I said 980 Ti because traditionally one compares the Fury series, 980 Ti, and 1070 to each other.

Why would someone compare a 1080 Ti to a Fury? I wasn't talking about you lol

LOL you have been throwing random junk all over the place. All I did was say the Fury Nitro was a steal for $250, and I have an overclocked ones that trades blows with the 1070.

Then you brought up 480 CF and the 1080 Ti as if that's a thing I was talking about lol.

What I said flowed with the conversation and made sense, I literally have no idea what you are rambling about. Lay off the pipe. 480CF would also be pretty close to what the rumored vega would be, hence why it is brought up, also it explains why I personally went to a 1080Ti. Which you are responding to. This really matches your post history. News flash AMD hasn't released a high end card since June of 2015. The fury at $250 still isn't a steal, we are talking less than half the framerate of a 1080Ti on the best day.

So you bring up 480 CF again lol. No it isn't close to Vega (Is that what your point was?!). 480 CF has notoriously terrible scaling compared to previous generations.

All I said about the 1080 Ti is that someone should buy one if that's what they want.

In other words, the only reason I would wait for Vega is that I am unimpressed by the 1080 Ti. It really is nothing special imo.

I got 90% scaling in every game that supported it? The 1080Ti doubled the performance of the last generation, that's better than the Fury pulled off, so again what on earth are you talking about....Holy smokes dude.

This graph really screams how many leaps and bounds forward NV is in terms of performance. This isn't even an AIB, just an FE. I mean I hope Vega doesn't suck, but I am also not holding my breath. I tried that with the release date, nearly died.
