CD Projekt Red are the world-renowned studio responsible for RPG masterpiece The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the two other less known, but still great Witcher RPGs before it. The company is one of the most gamer-oriented, generous game developers out there today, bar none. I say this, because this is a company who did some missteps before, but quickly backed out of them and that have created one of the most memorable and successful open-worlds to date. This is the studio that offered not only a soundtrack CD with their standard edition of the game, alongside a full-color map of the game world, but also went to the lengths of including a small letter to thank us for choosing their game over others. These developers offered 16 pieces of DLC with their game, DLC pieces that other studios had been (and have been) charging customers for.

The company outlined above have come forth in a tweet, publicly calling out an attempt from thieves to ransom stolen development files on the studios' upcoming sci-fi Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red said that they will not give in to demands from the individuals that have contacted them, and acknowledge that the public release of those files is likely to happen as a result. The studio also goes on saying that these files (if they even come to public now that their value has been thoroughly cut down) are "largely unrepresentative of the current vision for the game." I don't know about you, but I'd much prefer to get some info on CD Projekt Red's next project from themselves.

P.S.: This editor Is sorry for the above post looking eerily similar to a rant. I just have a low tolerance for this kind of behavior from any part, but most of all, when the targeted party is actually one of the studios that is more deserving of gamers' respect.

Rant allowed. News can be delivered in any format based on the presentation style.

As for the theft of stuff - it won't have any impact on the end result and the thousands of fans that loved the Witcher series will still buy the new Cyberpunk RPG.

I can't bloody wait for the new title. The hackers can go die of something bad.

+1 for the stand up way they have handled this and for the news with flare. I have personally seen them in the past with a bit of a bad feeling based on the Gameworks put in their games that only hindered competition, but I also didn't realize they were giving out DLC for free, I may have to buy The Witcher and see how I like it.

If the Witcher 3 is anything to go by, Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be spectacular.

The Witcher 3 is the only game to date I have played that left me 'gutted' that I had one of the bad endings (actually woke up down and sad for a few days after). Genuinely - you get so attached to certain characters and it takes a hold of you. Had to replay the game from half way through and make different choices. The endings to the last DLC of the series are some of the most thoughtful and rewarding feelings I've had from a game. Actually felt proud yet sad it was finally all over.

Are you allowed complete autonomy in killing? Unlike Skyrim, where you might kill an important NPC but can't kill the rest of the annoying brats and last man at the Imperial camps?

Hmmm... unsure, I play with a high degree of 'morality' in most games so dont tend to kill people unless it's required or they deserve it. It probably does have a mechanic to stop you from being a total psycho, otherwise the game wouldn't work (if for example a pivotal character was kileld by you).

There is ONE big pitfall for CDPR's next big release and that is a game that plays too much like TW3. If they start copy/pasting the concept, they'll go the Ubisoft way fast.

Recent Ubi games haven't really run on a storyline, rather an exciting experience (that gets really repetitive - like my now untouched Ghost Recon, or Ghost Re-Yawn). The Witcher has been story led the whole time and I'd expect Cyberpunk to be the same.

They got even more respect from me now.
How much they stand for their great products, warning not be mislet by early visuals of a game.
WHAT A GREAT SPEECH FOR QUALITY AT ANY TIME THE CUSTOMER PAYS

The complete opposite to pre-alpha-monetization of other publishers on steam for example,
not bad either but a totally diffrent approach.

Indeed. CDPR has always been about the story first. That is their strength and they know it.

People seem to forget they're also the ones responsible for botching the PC port of Saints Row 2.

And also the ones who, when The Witcher was released, totally bug-ridden, fixed it, released it again as the Enhanced Edition. This is the same company that allowed everyone who bought that huge failed release to receive a free copy of the fixed and improved game.

So yeah, the best developer out there!

They've really said very little about the game other than that it is a cyberpunk game placed in to 2077 (...uh...kind of obvious...yeah?). I'm not sure how they handle chaos (which is what you're describing). That said, I'm not really sure how they handle chaos in Witcher 3 either because I never ran into a situation where I was compelled to go against the developer's intended path. I suspect they use the same engine so you could easily test your own theory in Witcher 3 and see how the game responds.

I think these hackers picked the wrong target. About all they'll gain from it is modders getting a leg up on creating mods. Depending on where they're at in development and what was obtained, they might not even get that much.

People seem to forget they're also the ones responsible for botching the PC port of Saints Row 2.
This sent me on a longer search than I anticipated. The PC port was outsourced to CD Projekt Black which doesn't even exist anymore. There was a language barrier between Volition (English) and CD Projekt Black (Polish). Volition wasn't able (still not able) to obtain the source code from CD Projekt Black for Saints Row 2. Just looking at Saints Row 2, one would easily conclude that CD Projekt Black built an Xbox 360 emulator for the game to run in which is why the game is so sensitive to newer operating systems. Bugs that exist in one also exists in the other (e.g. causing the water physics to go crazy).

10 minutes in, they start talking about it:

CD Projekt Red really doesn't have much of a choice but to go this route imo. Paying off the blackmailers wouldn't stop them. Most likely they would just demand more money and if they didn't get it then they would release whatever they had anyway.

Or do a "Ransom" thing (the movie, with Mel Gibson and Gary Sinise): make a public bounty with the amount the hackers demanded for them hackers to be taken down. Whoever succeeds in taking down / exposing the hackers gets the ransom.

Now that would be a twist, no?

I actually think the best thing to do now is to do nothing. Any attempt to bring this down will increase the "value" of the hack and the amount of people talking about it. If they ignore it, it will fade away.

Don't forget Gwent. One of the best card games ever. At least for me :)
