This is a regular CMI8788-based sound card isn't it? Just like X-Meridian, b-Inspirer, Sondigo Inferno... Nice Creative gets yet another competitor but they come late to the game and
fail to produce anything new...

ALT claim is rather ridiculous
"onboard ALT (Analog Loopback Transformation) circuit to provide almost lossless analog recording audio quality from digital music files."
It is not just BS. It is nonsense. Analog is lossless. Hence its name.

Yeah creative are horrible for software. They still havent released their software for vista yet (Drivers only!) and have a bad habit of totally ditching older cards.

If software is horrible then there is rather nothing to miss, right?
I have used creative Live sound card for 11 years... I kind of accept they do not support it for Vista. In fact no other piece of hardware from late 90's could work in my PC even 5 years ago. So I'd say they are actually pretty good in this regard.

That's kinda my take on it as well. I long for the day when somebody brings a competitive product to the market, that has a true DSP, not just an over-glorified (albeit high quality) I/O chip.

true true, Asus was supposed to develop their own chip so maybe perhaps possibly they will...
