XIGMATEK Launches the Whiz CPU Cooler

XIGMATEK today launched the Whiz upper-mainstream CPU air cooler, which it debuted at the 2017 Computex. The cooler features a conventional tower-type heatsink design, and can handle thermal loads of up to 150W. Four 6 mm-thick copper heat pipes make direct contact with the CPU at the aluminum base, conveying heat to the fin-stack, which is ventilated by an included XIGMATEK SE II Red fan, with support for a second fan in push-pull configuration.

The included fan takes in 4-pin PWM input, spins between 800 to 2,000 RPM, pushing up to 78 CFM of air, with a noise output as low as 19.4 dBA. The fin-stack is capped off by a stylized top-plate. The XIGMATEK Whiz measures135 mm x 85 mm x 158 mm (LxWxH). It supports most modern CPU sockets, including AM4, AM3(+), FM2(+), LGA2011v3, LGA115x, LGA1366, and LGA775.

Good to see they've gotten away from their rubble nipple fan mounts from the old S1283 days. Looks like their tower design hasn't changed all that much...sure brings back some memories. Price will make or break this cooler though, it needs to be cheap and effective, and compete with the EVO and Cryorig budget coolers in the sub-$35 price range IMHO. Otherwise, I see little here to be interested about. Frankly I tried to only buy Xig S1283 coolers when the $20 sales were happening....otherwise I went EVO.

I HATED the rubber nipple fan mount BS...after a few years they snap...and without being able to replace them effectively made the design useless.

I've had one since they were first introduced, the fan was weak, had to replace that.... and one of the rubber nipples broke on mine.... I would cram a small screwdriver in the heatsink and pry them out from there, trying to get the fuckers out the right way never seemed to work for me---was always afraid they'd break. And of course we can't find replacements. it's still going strong though, I superglued the broken nipple to a new corsair fan.....
