Logitech Acquires ASTRO Gaming for $85 million

In a move that is sure to increase Logitech's portfolio and cadre of available designs for its products, the Switzerland-based company has snagged up ASTRO Gaming for a cool $85 million. That both ASTRO and Logitech both have some of their more recognizable strengths in the same market - the headset one - didn't seem to faze Logitech's board. This probably means the company is looking to further lock-in the headset market through overwhelming quality and attractiveness of its headsets.





Logitech had this to say about the deal: "ASTRO is the leading player for premium console headsets and is the preferred headset for console esports athletes," said Ujesh Desai, vice president and general manager of Logitech G. "It's a perfect complement to Logitech G's focus on PC gaming and we couldn't be more excited; we love the team, the brand and the products. Together, we want to make game play even more fun for gamers everywhere."

Jordan Reiss, co-founder and president of ASTRO, added, "The whole team at ASTRO has always held Logitech and Logitech G products in the highest regard, so I'm ecstatic we are joining forces. ASTRO's brand strength combined with Logitech G's unrivalled technology and global distribution network is going to bring our products to even more gamers around the world."

Logitech is very good actually (although trust's gxt 353 should be considered for pc and there are quite a few alternatives that are arguably better) and astro has the ideas, but then forgets about something as basic as a good microphone. Still, at least we should have more astro a10 grade headsets rather than 300 dollar pieces of sh*t. Astro a50 is worth 150 dollars AT MOST imo.

There are alternatives at similar price, but most decent ones have usb 2.0 connectors, so if you ever want to use them with your mobile device, you can't.

But seriously, really expensive wireless headsets suck. Anything more than 150 dollars/200 euros probably isn't worth considering.

Overglorified products? Logitech sensor pmw3366 rapes anything else on the market. Best sensor ever and the only one with next to no accel/smoothing (and at any dpi level).

Their wireless tech is also the best and fastest with no delay compared to wired (try g403 or g900)

Their materials last, I still have a g9x from 2009 that is working wonders, and z5500 since 2009 aswell.

If you want to talk crap about brands, put logitech aside. Specially compared to razer, benq/zowie. Now those are overpriced overglorified products.

G403 for the win! G703 in europe is just g403, but at a higher price and it doesn't even have the wireless charging thing yet, but if you want a nice upgrade path it's the better choice. The g900/g903 have a strange shape and I prefer the good 'ol logitech mouseshape over any other. It's so perfect! Just a shame the scrollwheel isn't anything special, but I think I actually prefer it over those really smooth ones. Simplicity is best sometimes.

You can get a G Pro on EU Amazon for 43€ right now, a G203 for 29€, a G403 for 48€. Sure there are pricey models, usually the wireless ones, but I don´t think Logitech is overpriced at all, considering the materials and top notch quality they usually have.

Let´s algo not forget the sensor as I mentioned (3366) wich stinks on any available sensor in the market right now. No accel, perfect flick shots. Best thing ever for someone that likes to be competitive.

my Zowie EC1A has lasted longer than my old steelseries sensei and Logitech G400. The USB cable died in both mice. I think @FordGT90Concept had a Logitech mouse with USB problems too.

Every product is prone to have problems, you can´t avoid it. But we talking about percentages here. Zowie mice have your fingertips in 2 weeks or less if you sweat a lot, due to that plastic. And the scroll wheels on EC models are really bad aswell. The side buttons seem to be about to break all the time. I have Zowie mice too as I love to test every mice, but man, besides the fact zowie offers a lot of shapes, they are all so inferior to Logitech.

Razer for example, totally on my blacklist, never had a product from them that didn´t cause problems after few months of use. Double clicking is the most frequent one, so annoying. Cheap materials, lack of QC.

On Logitech you had the g303 sensor rattle problem and G403 scroll rattle on the first batches, but Logitech switched them for new batches if you contact them, immediatly and no shipping costs.

You guys fail to understand, @Chaitanya craps on Logitech anytime there is any news about them here. He doesnt learn his lesson. Logitech touched him in his no-no spot or something. Is totally fixed now on the second batch, wich is good news as the mouse is so good for medium/big hands Prolly one of the best mouse money can buy right now! I have one and a G Pro. I use the G pro because my hands too small for G403. And I agree about the cables, debraiding cable on G403 and G Pro is a must for me, I prefer zowie ones too.

Dude; its cool and all that you are happy about your hardware but fact is that logitech have had some serious issues with quality. Take G35 (I have had 3 of them) my mates 1-3 as well: all have exploded more or less in the sides. Their G500s mouses have been known to ragequit akwardly fast. Their G930 had SERIOUS connection issues. Their G933 made squirckysound making the mic / experience awful. That is just the bugs I have incountered with my and my friends hardware over the last 5 years. Z5500 had super buzz to alot of people (not mine but a reported problem to many) So you need to understand that your perception things is not equal to the rest of the worlds As people write: everyone have problems; but logitech is not the alpha omega when it comes to quality.
