SAPPHIRE Technology has announced the launch of the much-anticipated SAPPHIRE Radeon Vega 64 enthusiast graphics cards. The Vega architecture boasts significant improvements focused on maximizing the performance. Vega cards are designed for enthusiasts seeking top-of-the-chart framerates in games of today and tomorrow - in Ultra details and VR.

SAPPHIRE Technology is introducing three Vega-powered models:
  • SAPPHIRE Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB HBM2 Liquid Cooled
  • SAPPHIRE Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB HBM2
  • SAPPHIRE Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB HBM2 Limited Edition

Vega is a major evolution of the Radeon graphics architecture, with innovations across multiple core fronts of the silicon. New GPUs feature a High Bandwidth Cache and memory controllers remove the capacity limitations of traditional GPU memory. Thanks to automatic, fine-grained memory movement controlled by the high-bandwidth cache controller, new architecture enables access to much larger, more detailed assets. Vega GPU utilizes HBM2, the latest in graphics memory technology, to provide incredible levels of power efficiency and memory performance.

RTG engineers also equipped Vega chips with Next-Gen Compute units. This translates to higher possible clock speeds, better throughput and double the peak polygon per clock handled by the engine (vs R9 Fury X). The Pixel Engine also received a Next-Gen makeover, boosting the shading performance especially vital for gaming. Significant advancements were made to the geometry engine as well.

So, is Vega only going to be available in reference design? Or is this Sapphire just trying to get at least some sales before they release their own version?

I really don't recall this matter being announced anywhere, but I could be wrong.

30% faster than a Fury X on the Doom slide.

I recall a certain forum member (who can remain nameless unless I stumble across their post) claiming with silly levels of confidence we were stupid if we thought Vega would be anything less than 50% faster.

Hmm. Given the clockspeed is 50% faster, this isn't very good at all. I don't understand how a shrink and 50%+ higher clocks aren't delivering more. Really itching for @W1zzard's review for the biopsy of the card, genuinely curious how this is not way faster. Could've just shrunk Fiji and ramped up clocks?

Yes the Aqua model will have higher clocks, probably voltage also. I'm considering doing the same and getting a Vega 64 and updating the Aqua bios with an EK waterblock. we'll have to wait and see.

None of us can be sure of why is that price so high until we read the reviews. Then, if Vega 64 has the performance to justify this price you mention all things are well. But if the price is proved higher than what it should be, no one should buy it until the price drops to the level of performance it has. Unless mining performance is as good as rumoured and retailers take advantage of this and gamers cannot buy it for this money.

This is misinformation. Just less emphasis on crossfire. Crossfire should still work for titles that support it. it wouldn't make any sense if Crossfire and mGPU was abandoned especially for those with 4K+, multi monitors and high refresh rate users (Although a small percentage)

Yeah, it was more the idea that they would not be focussing on support, not they were dropping it. It needs to be seen how it plays out in the real world as always.

Ok, thanks. It does indeed look like reference designs allowed, without any vendor creativity or innovation.
I think we might see aftermarket solutions with Vega 56(at launch) just as Fury had aftermarket cooling solutions while Fury X was strictly reference design only. Asus has already announced their Strix edition of Vega 64 so it might be couple of months before we similar cards from other AIBs.

That's my understanding too. I think AMD was just saying they wouldn't be pulling that 2 x 480's vs 1 x 1080 BS anymore.

However I think AMD should be more clear on this.

They were. That was one of the question in a interview this week over at PCPerspective
@37:00 mark

DX12 & Vulkan its up to the ISVs, application needs to have support for it to work.

DX 9-10-11 likely they will only work on profiling popular & colab titles.

so this is an advertorial? plain advertisement?

Which one? PCPer guys often have people from various companies on their live streams (they had . Here, they were just discussing drivers and features. There were hardly any mentions about Vega and even for it, most of the answers were "Can't comment on that yet". So, hardly an "advertorial". They also aren't AMD exclusive. They had Tom petersen from NVIDIA in the past and I think they also had some guys from Intel. They just have AMD guys more often at the moment because of all the stuff around Vega launch...

Wake me up when there is an actual reliable benchmark of these cards...

14 August launch and here we are on the 12th knowing absolutely nothing. DAFUQ AMD. This is almost as bad as a pre-order situation
