Ah, so much fanboyism. Pass the popcorn please, while I find my VIA master race flag.

Intel prices are shit, products are good. AMD gaming performance is inferior, prices are excellent. That wasn't hard at all.

Only uninformed or ignorant people will think that in games one CPU brand is better than the other. We are no longer in the '90s. The GPU is now the limiting factor not the CPU. That's why I'm still running a 3770K which has EXACTLY THE SAME performance in 3440x1440 as an 7700K. Unless the game engines or gaming codding are going to improve, such as A.I., physics or other CPU heavy tasks, upgrading now your CPU to improve one's gaming experience is laughable to say the least.

At this moment AMD is getting their pants up you mean?
They offer cheaper products but the BEST offering comes from Intel when we talk about the real deal, performance, we are all agree that Intel's prices are too high, i won't be gaming on that slow crap from AMD anyways, and i am sure Coffe Lake will wipe the floor with AMD next offerings.
I guess it depends on what kind of person you are, what your values are. Like, why would anyone buy a car, they're so expensive, bicycles are much cheaper! I guess if you're dirt poor, a bicycle looks like heaven compared to walking, and a car seems like an unobtainable dream. But, poor or not, if you have any hustle at all, you'll find a way to get a car, or be doomed to a life of walking or sweaty bicycle riding and ridicule. Same with computers, you can live cheap and slow, or, step up your game, make some money, and get something fast and smooth that doesn't take all day to get there. It's all a matter of budgeting and priorities for most people - quit drinking, smoking, and eating at McDonald's for a month or two, you can afford any PC you want. To me, cheaper = failure when it comes to my large purchases, especially when it comes to my main system. I've never had much money, but I have my priorities.

Stop being a drama queen.

Seems like your loss. AMD's latest offerings are very impressive and are much more capable then Intel's current lineup. Even the newest Intel products are somewhat lacking by comparison. Though there is no doubt they will catch up, it is clear AMD caught Intel with their pants down. There is however no reason to hold a grudge like this.

And here's what gets people riled up. AMD offers basically the same IPC at lower clocks and crams more cores onto a CPU. But that does not make AMD's offering "much more capable" than Intel's, that's a line that should not be crossed. Depending on your needs, you're better served by one company of the other. For the time being, there's no one chip that will beat everything else across the board. That's the simple truth.

Ah, but that is not true, is it? Intel is faster in games. That is just a fact.

By the same token companies should never release new slightly better products within 24 months after release.

Not 24 months but at least give it a year or so...

By the same token people who strive for the highest performance, no matter the cost, are utter idiots (e.g. all those who have bought NVIDIA's Titans/Ti's or Intel's HEDT CPUs).

They are... buying something for 1200USD like Titan to have it destroyed by a 600USD 980Ti, 4 months later is disgusting... also nvidia is being idiots for doing that!!!

It's getting utterly ridiculous. Every news where Intel or NVIDIA gets mentioned turns into some holy war against these companies even when they release decent products at decent prices.

They have not released something with decent prices in years!!! They do mini steps between generations of products, instead of actually innovating and making a diference bigger than 10-20% per generation of Product.

This final paragraph will probably draw a lot of flak but I'm gonna utter it anyways. Last but not least anyone who has replaced their working Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge/Haswell/SkyLake systems with equivalent (the same core/threads count) Kaby Lake CPUs is indeed an idiot unless the said person absolutely couldn't live without new platform features (NVMe/M.2/USB-C/etc.).

Totally agree with you.
Still using a 4770K (bought used), upgraded 2 months ago from a 3770K only because PCIe slot on MB got killed.

There is no sense in buying new product now.

I believe Nvidia has released "the most powerful card in the world" within months of each other. It takes 9 months to tape out a card so they knew they had a more powerful card multiple time yet charged flagship price for each one. 1080 > Titan Xp > 1080 Ti. 980 > 980 Ti. The 980 Ti was the quickest drop, coming in within a month of the 980's release.

Problem was not 980 VS 980TI.

The BIG problem was TITAN X vs 980TI

980 came out in Sep 2014 - 550 usd
Titan X came out Mar 2015 - 1200 usd
980ti came out in Jun 2015 - 600 usd (9 months after 980 and only a ridiculous 3 months after Titan X)

980 > Titan X > 980ti

The 600usd 980ti obliterated the 1200usd Titan x in 3 months!!

Ah, but that is not true, is it? Intel is faster in games. That is just a fact.

depends on the game... and if you are doing something else at the same time, AMD takes the clear advantage.

At this moment AMD is getting their pants up you mean?

there are a couple of things you are forgetting...

1st - AMD is still tweaking their Ryzen releases.
2nd - we have right now 500USD ryzen beating 1200USD i7s is there really a comparison here??
3rd - the Performance tests have proved ryzen are better for streamers (playing and recording at the same time) and workstations.

this means the BEST offerings are very relative... what is BEST for you? that, can be different for someone else...

You clearly dont remember the AMD FX vs Netburst days.

As soon as Ryzen reaches the level of success they want, prepare your wallet.

Yeah those were not pleasant days. Freaking expensive Athlon64X2 3800+

What are you guys on about?? I had a 4200+ and the pricing was similar to a intel CPU

release prices for the 4200+ was 537$ and release price for the Pentium D 840 was 530$

"The 600usd 980ti obliterated the 1200usd Titan x in 3 months!!"

The Titans are a special case, aimed at wealthy enthusiasts who'd rather pay the price than wait. Like any "early adopter", of SSDs, CD drives, CD burners, DVD-ROM, DVD burners, etc. All these people paid outrageous prices to be "the first kid on the block" to have the latest or fastest, then paid it again every time the tech got better or faster. The guys who bought Titans can afford it, and don't care, they can buy 2 or 3 980Tis if it bothers them.

Should I point out that pricing of luxury sports cars is also not lined up by their 0-60mph performance either? When you go beyond high-end, it's actually moronic to even look at price:performance any longer.

its just stupid to buy titans... I can understand if you have the performance crown for 1 year, but, not 3 months... it was a shitty move from Nvidia, and angered a lot of people because of it. The cycles should be 1 year or more, not less. I know a few people that have contacted nVidia with their lawyers and returned their Titans and got 980Ti for the normal price. That was because nvidia was marketing the Titan to be the performance king and all...

its completely different matter. Luxury cars you pay for luxury, that is why you have tons of different classes of cars. When People bought the Veyron it was Top speed king for years, same with Mclaren F1. When people buy Rolls-royce they buy it for the luxury and status and not performance...

As for PC parts you are paying for their performance...

You know what's stupid? Telling people how to spend their money!
I always buy in the $200-300 range, but that doesn't mean other segments should just go away.

Veyron may have been the fastest car at ~408km/h, but at the time you could buy the Saleen S7 with a top speed of 399km/h for less than half the money. Was Veyron a rip-off?

No, just on very low resolutions. On 4K or 3440x1440, there is almost a zero difference. And that's because most of the compiler tools used by devs are using Intel's libraries or such...

You do know there's like 1% of people gaming at 4k out there, don't you?
(Though that in no way makes Ryzen less capable)

Good point, but, go ahead and compare both cars doing 400 and you will see the difference. James May got it to 400 and he could whisper to the camera. The Veyron is a Luxury car and The Saleen is sort of a hyper sports car, no.

Like I said, you are comparing oranges to bananas... you can't compare cars to graphics or planes, or boats for that matter....

Graphics cards are PC parts bought by hundreds of thousands of people, those cars are bought by a select few people... graphics would be more comparable to Toyota Corolla and its competitors as they are made for the masses...

Some people are confusing "much more capable" with "much more cost-effective for people who need high core counts", a completely different metric. Capability has nothing to do with price. It's about overall performance in a broad range of applications. No AMD CPUs are "more capable" than Intel CPUs with the same core count, quite the opposite, but they're all "more cost effective" for power users, just not for most gamers and typical users. AMD and their board partners have confused some people with their heavy marketing of Threadripper towards gamers, and it's going to be a rude awakening when they realize they've spent 4 times what was needed for a gaming rig, and their 32 threads are mostly sitting idle, and the much cheaper mainstream Intel rigs are blowing their doors off.

There are rumors that getting on the seat inside of a Veyron is an experience never felt before, contrary to doing so on a hyper sport car, even if the gap on speed is almost none, some people will never understand the meaning of those minimal details.

The thing is, CPUs (like all other things) have several features: raw HP, TDP, price, availability and so on. When I buy a CPU, out of those I look at price (it has to be ~$200), performance (I don't need heavy multithreading and I play games, so single thread performance is important) and then TDP (I will pay ~$30-50 to have it cooled silently, but that's it). And I only overclock out of curiosity, not for 24/7 usage. And that dictates the important features of a CPU for me. I will not get all riled up when somebody else looks at the same CPU I bought and tells me it doesn't cut it. Different people have different needs.

Of course, if two products are virtually identical, but largely differ in a single aspect, that is a legit point of criticism. E.g. two CPUs on par on all aspects, but costs twice as much as the other or needs twice the power. But even then, just ignore the obvious misplaced product and move on. Point it out to other if you think they need the advice.

No, just on very low resolutions. On 4K or 3440x1440, there is almost a zero difference. And that's because most of the compiler tools used by devs are using Intel's libraries or such...

"Almost", meaning Intel is ahead ... if ever so slightly. I'm just trying to be factual. Does the difference matter? That is another topic.

Veyron may have been the fastest car at ~408km/h, but at the time you could buy the Saleen S7 with a top speed of 399km/h for less than half the money. Was Veyron a rip-off?
For the billionth time, can we all stop comparing video cards with cars?!?!? This comparison is so idioticly stupid, I really don't understand why people keep doing this.
First of all, you don't just buy a car for the speed and/or performance/dollar, wth. You also buy a car for it's looks, for it's statement, usage, etc. Some people prefers Lambos over Ferraries and is not just for the performance. Is because of the looks, sound of the engine, brand colors, etc, etc, etc.
How can you even start a comparison with video cards?????:laugh::laugh::kookoo::kookoo::kookoo:

When one compares apples to oranges it does it because they're both fruits, not because they're supposedly comparable in every other aspect. Sorry if your brain can't handle that, I'll try something easier next time.

How about PC power supplies? Are we allowed to compare video cards with power supplies? Okay, here goes...(you'll love this). If you need a 650 watt PSU, Coolmax makes one for $103, with no 80+ rating whatsoever. For the more discerning builder, Seasonic also makes a 650w, for $149, but it's rated 80+Titanium, and also happens to be one of the highest-rated power supplies in the world, according to every review you can find. They both put out 650 watts (more or less), have a similar number of connectors, and have a fan. Both will presumably empower the same system interchangeably. But the Seasonic has much tighter voltage regulation, almost zero ripple, is super-efficient, and makes virtually no noise; it's a work of art, as power supplies go. It does cost half again as much, but the standard "you get what you pay for" clause applies, as always. Also, the Seasonic is full modular, while the Coolmax is fully hard-wired, with almost no sleeving at all to cover the ugly tangle of multi-colored wires.

Honestly, which one do you want in your new build? RX Vega 64 is represented by the Coolmax in this comparison and GTX-1080Ti is represented by the Seasonic, in case that wasn't clear. I guess I could also use this for Ryzen and Intel...

Yes, because Video Cards and Cars are from the same category..... :toast::rolleyes:
You are right though, my brain cannot handle that.

This thread is not only becoming boring, but predictable, so predictable it has descended into an almost carbon copy of so many other threads (cars, PSU's, fanboism etc), it's a news thread, just that, not a review, not a motorsport advertisement, be civil, relevant and constructive please or I will be breaking a personal record and reply banning several of you.

Wasn't me :lovetpu::lovetpu::lovetpu:

But I admit, it's annoying to see how much bashing we regularly see in threads about a product announcement (i.e. the product is not even available yet). If I'm also guilty of that, please slap me (in a PM or smth), because I'm not doing it on purpose.

Yeah, I run Intel. I'm not so impressed with Vega, I've got a GTX1080. But Ryzen7 is an amazing performer and Ryzen9[Threadripper] is shaping up to be even more so. See, as you already implied, you're gaming. And while I game too, I do MUCH more with my system. This round of CPU generations AMD has the performance advantage. The benchmarks tell the tale. AMD is beating out Intel currently and bang for buck, it's a stomping. This is good for all of us. It will force Intel to kick it up a few notches. And i9 is not a good response. Unless you pay an extreme premium, the i9 is not an attractive option.
