Raptr Shutting Down this Month

Remember Raptr? It was a downloadable client for Windows, touted as a social-networking application for gamers, and supported communication via Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, Xfire while also tracking gameplay across Steam, XBOX Live and PlayStation Network accounts. It was a dinosaur that no one used even a few years ago, and only really got some traction among PC gaming enthusiasts when AMD bundled it as part of their "Gaming Evolved" application to offer their user base a screen capture and game optimization tool similar to what NVIDIA was doing with their (then new) GeForce Experience application.

Just about every service now offers what Raptr used to and, aside from being able to track gameplay across multiple services, often better too. No one seemed to really use it, or even like it I dare say, even when they offered points for simply gaming that could then be used on a rewards store. When AMD dropped support for Raptr in Q4 2016, and then launched their own Radeon Crimson ReLive Edition drivers for gameplay capture, it was probably the final nail in the coffin. To no surprise then, this week Raptr, Inc. announced that the service is completing shutting down at the end of this month. Farewell and adieu to you, Raptr, we shalt not miss thee!

That service was shit. I tried using it when Xfire bit the dust and while it did track my gameplay, it always glitched for me disappearing on my task bar and I would fight with it to come back. I tried bringing it up with the devs but they could never reproduce the problem. I kept having it on multiple systems and multiple Windows installs despite reformats.

There is another service out there too that I cant recall the name of but made home to all the Xfire refugees. Their moderators and their customer service reps on forums were complete dicks and they were money hungry always wanted you to pay for this and that with ridiculous fees.

I miss Xfire and wish the service would come back. I miss the sound files that Xfire had. I basically stick to steam these days. Even though I cant get the in game chat to work with WoW or other non steam games.

Good riddance Raptr. You wont be missed.

I used Xfire and she eventually went away, but before it did Raptr showed up and I migrated over there. Sure, I had Steam to track gameplay hours, but that was only for Steam bound games. I have a lot of physical copies of games I played as well and wanted to keep track of my hours and also I liked how Raptr allowed you to migrate Xfire data over to it.

I didn't mind using Raptr up until they started including their own streaming program. Every damn time Raptr had an update, it would automatically install their streaming software and initialize it to run when you launched a game. After Raptr started doing this I just said, FU and parted ways. I forgot about it until I saw this topic.

Raptr could have been really great had AMD actually put forth effort into it instead of letting it drift to the wayside. Oh well. Time moves on and what was once great is now obsolete or forgotten to a point that it's no longer needed.

The first thing I thought of when I read this article was how AMD tried to use Raptr as a stopgap to make up for their lack of anything close to Geforce Experience. And how people demanded drivers without Raptr included...

Raptr sold personal information too. I had just started another email address for a new MMO and decided to use that addy for C-raptr, withing a few days I had 10-20 spam messages. Raptr wouldnt let me cancel my account either. I also had a bitch of a time uninstalling Raptr, there was soo much crap left behind, this is why I wont install vendor software anymore. Raptr really took advantage of unknowning gamers.

actually it was way better and useful than GFE more rewarding and technically less invasive (well the only good point of GFE is Shadowplay, but since not standalone : worthless in the end)

well i will miss it ... after all i did win a raffle thru that software paid with the point you were getting just by playing your games normally.

not really, ofc if you have the same opinion about GFE, it's logical ... and yep the game optimisation was working way better than GFE also, GFE was a waste of space, Raptr, a bit less

i had none of these issues

there was no lack of anything close to GFE : GFE was nothing desirable, but indeed Raptr was kinda a better GFE on some point ... at last it was useful and rewarding during the time i used it.

for my defence : i stopped using it when i got my 980 to replace my 290 so they probably updated it after that and went down the drain (funny ... it was not really AMD's fault since it wasn't their softwares )


on a second thought anyone used Overwolf ? (not recommended by Nvidia or AMD but by Logitech )
