Sounds like 1080's that didn't make the cut. Milk what they can over the holidays coming up. There is no competition to compete against themselves so why not. Smart on thier part. A 1070ti release to give that "refreshed" feeling of new for those in the market needing a GPU. Better than a1070 and I bet very closely priced since there is barely any space between the 1070 and 1080. Guess this make 1070 defunct.

GTX 1070/GTX 1080 have no problems against Vega 56/Vega 64, so there is no need for a GTX 1070 Ti. So Nvidia is trying to sell some leftover Pascal stockpiles. But this card looks like a great deal.

Not stopping you, just warning you :) History repeats, and these afterthought products just don't hold value if you ever intend to resell. You save 70 bucks now, and you will run into a performance wall a half year earlier, and lose that money again because its not a card people really want to buy off you. Oh and don't worry, the 1070ti will look fine in benchmark graphs on release, business as usual. Just like the 970 at the time...
Why would it run into a performance wall? There is no reason why games suddenly need more memory bandwidth vs. other resources.
And GTX 970 was and remained an awesome deal.

They could always shuffle the entire stack up and drop the Titan XP. Make the 1080ti a full core chip, make the 1080 closer to the old 'ti'. Nvidia can play around for the fun of it.
Nvidia don't have enough full GP102 chips to do that, they can't even meet the demand for Titan.

Nvidia is using faster Samsung memory modules for the 1060 than the Micron chips they started to put inside of 1070s soon after the initial batches.

Doesn't that tell you something ? The 1070 is purposely limited by memory bandwidth , launching a higher core count model would only further that. But then again they could come up with anything and it will still sell like crazy.
The 1070 isnt limited in memory at all, you can oc the memory and it will make not much difference.

This is my 1060 with the default 8 Gbps memory speed.

I'd say that's a noticeable bump in performance just from overclocking the memory. There is no reason why this wouldn't scale in the same fashion with a 1070 or any other more powerful Pascal card. If anything higher core counts would exacerbate a memory bottleneck.

Gp104 and Gp106 are different, i have a 1070, those are not real tests, and 1070 on real games you wont see a difference.

Memory bottleneck does not exist on 1070 to any significance

Believe what you want I guess. Memory speed most definitely affects performance.

Maybe you have a magic card that doesn't need faster VRAM , might just as well underclock it and save up some power.

It just has what it needs, 256bit and 8gbps is all 1070 needs i overclocked it alot for ff14 and project cars, no difference, you underestimate 1070 memory on its architecture

Lets put it this way the memory is not 1070s bottleneck

It's the same architecture as with every other Pascal card ( some would say with Maxwell too ;) ). Your 1070 isn't a special case. Memory controllers differ but the shaders themselves respond in the same way when it comes down to the relationship between instruction throughput and memory speed/latency.

Again , I'm not forcing you to believe memory speed makes difference , you already seem convinced it doesn't. I'm just telling you the engineering behind these things doesn't agree with you. I talked about this extensively in another thread , not going to do it again here , but the matter of the fact is that every modern GPU architecture is starved for faster memory.

Anyway , my initial comment on the matter was towards this supposed 1070ti that has the same memory configuration as a regular 1070 which seems unlikely.

Maybe at 4k... its the only place higher bandwidth makes a difference... well, that and apu's.
he thinks the 1070 has a memory bottleneck and it just doesnt
synthetic benchmarks and mining only

Clock speed and sm units technically is the only thing bottlenecking the 1070

GTX 1070 will be bottlenecked in terms of computational performance long before memory bandwidth.

And this will kill any hope RTG had regarding Vega56.

This will probably give Vega 64 a run for it's money too, not like that is particularly hard though.

Considering sli 1070 equals a 1080ti...

So once the 1070 Ti comes out, i'll try and find a used 1070. The 1080Ti is still $700+ USD, I might be able to find a 1070 for $350.

1070 ti unless you mostly play games that actually support sli properly and are fine with all the screen glitches and inconsistent frametimes sli brings with it. Sli was great way back when, but now single cards are powerful enough that it isn't worth the extra frames for a somewhat mediocre experience and hardly any games actually support sli at all and most actually perform worse with sli than with a single card.

In fact, not even g-sync can save you from sli's inconsistent frametimes because it'll just seem like you sometimes have massive input lag.

It's 2017 people, sli is as good as dead!

Neither G-Sync nor FreeSync does anything to improve frame times, it's all about eliminating tearing. If a GPU setup causes stutter, then this needs to be solved in the GPU setup somehow.

The 1070Ti looks uncomfortably close to 1080, if the price is right this might be a good buy

I mainly play PUBG, BF4/1, GTA5, Sniper Elite 4. TEKKEN 7, and Fallout 4 right now.

I think most of them do scale well with sli from reviews ive seen.

What are some of the bugs Sli brings? I've never had a 2 card setup before.

Stuttering, stuttering, stuttering, stuttering and of course...... artifacts. Sli, nvlink and the like are really only useful for professional use cases. I promise you lower framerates with one fast card gives a far superior experience to two slower ones in sli. Get a 1080 ti if you want two 1070's in sli.

If you choose to go sli, I promise you, if you ever want to play less well scaling sli games, you'll be sorry you bought two cards not one faster one!

Is quite simple actually. Failed 1080s goes for 1070s. Not so failed 1080s, goes for the future 1070Ti. The "not-so-failed" 1080 GPUs pilled up so it's time for a new card. ;) Is very understandable.
Now, what if you can flash a 1070ti BIOS to an 1080 one, that would be something...

I love how everyone is thinking the 1080 has this huge memory bandwidth improvement over the 1070.

My 1070 does 2200MHz on the memory easily, I'm pretty sure almost all 1070s can do this. That puts the memory bandwidth of my 1070 only about 12% behind the memory bandwidth of a stock 1080... It really isn't that much of a difference.

It really isn't that much of a difference.
thing is you dont even need to oc the 1070 memory at all cause its not a bottleneck at all xD
