Microsoft Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Available Today

I'm thinking about moving my system to dual boot to get the features back that window 10 broke.

Like an OS that doesn't force uninstall things it doesn't like, and ads, and the kids version of control panel.

Honestly it's 2017 even the crappiest laptops now have at least 4GB of RAM. Hell , my fairly mid-low end laptop form 2010 had 4GB RAM.

2017 low end notebooks come with 2GB, in a x64 install, and Microsoft adds more stuff with the same minimum requirements. Some of the notebooks even have the RAM soldered to the board without a slot for expansion.

Very few do , just checked my local retailer and throughout the hundreds of models available for sale only the absolute cheapest 15-20 of them had 2GB of RAM. Point is , this is after all one of the most modern operating systems available and you can't seriously expect it to run like butter on the bare minimum of what you can buy today . It was always like this , so I don't even now why you are annoyed by it now. With or without bloatware software grows in complexity and need for better hardware anyway.

Meh that's what updates do now. You could delete the upgrade folder in the HDD or clean the updates via windows clean updates tool but deleting the folder could cause a issue for trying to do a system restore

Curious as to what made the driver stall... Updated all my machines today. 4 in total. All looking good thus far. Subtle changes, nothing too drastic. Small features start appearing only if you look closely.

for you, just install tbe drivers manually. Im guessing you do it so in frequently the drivers you slipstream into an installation will be outdated and needing an update anyway. Personally, as frequently as i do it, i still dont slipstream anything.

I haven't slipstreamed actually. What drivers? You mean like the chipset inf?

In any case, the one thing 7 had going for it to me is solved in this new 10 update. 32 bit games didn't recognize total VRAM correctly in a 64 bit OS... except Windows 7. Windows 8 and 10 continued with this issue until this new update.

Windows 10 requires a minimum 10 GB of free space; just to be safe, the bare minimum I would recommend is 16 GBs. Windows 10 Creators Update setup is more sensitive to disk space challenges. Now would be a good time to invest in a USB thumb drive or external hard disk with a minimum 16 GB of free space. Setup can use such storage devices to help facilitate the upgrade just in case.

I just keep reusing the install USB disc I got with the retail version. It's 8GB with 1GB free (I have both 32 bit and 64 bit versions on it.. so it'll be a smaller download for others). These cost pennies.

Nothing but BSODs for me with this update even with my AV turned off. Had to do a few system restores, CHKDSK and SFCs just to recover from what I believe are file corruptions (stemming botched updates). I'll wait for now.

It installed ok but downgraded my GPU driver to an older version and reset the switch to not download drivers automatically. So for anyone who prefers to update drivers manually, double check your driver versions and change the auto update switch back to no.

I don't know how to add a custom version with my own drivers though. How does that work? I tend to lump everything on a USB drive and install drivers separately, but I know there's a better way to do this.

I get scoffed at for not installing updates until they've been out for months. Yet, even with that practice, I'll still get a bricked OS from an update occasionally (takes longer than 2 mo for those idiots to fix 'em properly).

What do the poor fools do without backups? LOL. I'm pissed enough when I have to image restore after an update. Imagine coming home to a BSOD and you have to reinstall LOL.

Updated this afternoon, during the first attempt to install it hit a black screen during the update process, restarted the system, it rolled back to 1703, tried the update again, it installed, my account retained its settings, but I had to re-disable hibernation. Also I've run into a strange bug where IE sometimes opens when I log in after a restart or boot.
