Razer announces the Razer Vespula V2 mouse mat, the successor to one of Razer's longest running products on the market. The Razer Vespula V2 is a dual-surface mouse mat that gives gamers the flexibility to choose between a dense cloth surface for more precise control or a micro-textured finish for a smoother glide. The Razer Vespula V2 has a larger surface area than its predecessor, allowing for better maneuverability and more room for play. The mat also sports a memory foam wrist rest that will keep users comfortable even with extended PC use. The Vespula V2 is the perfect companion for Razer performance mice.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
About time! Vespula best mouse pad with wrist pad :rockout:
actually nope ... it's the Roccat Alumic that take this crown .... had both, the Vespula only had one thing higher than the Alumic: the price  everything was lower .... even the duration, Vespula : 19 month before structurale failure, Alumic : 59 month and still counting and one thing i had with the Vespula's writstrest that i didn't have with the Alumic, is allergic reaction (when the skin turn itchy and red .... it's never a good sign .... but that might be just myself that react to that, i hope)

ah the new one is still not cheaper 49.99€ ...
even for a cloth surface addition, ouch ... from them .... i expect it to wear off quite fast, tho it's nice to see 2 different surface rather than 2 microtextured surface sporting the marketing argument "control" and "speed", even if they are actually marketing them like that ... dual side mousepad, how many time their user turn them? answer: 1 time ... just after buying it and realizing it does strictly nothing.
i prefer paying 1/2 the price of the mouse than 2/3 (specially if the differences are as they are)

w00t, needed a new one!

lucky one .... your previous is still in one piece? if the answer is yes, tell yourself "woops, i didn't needed a new one in the end" ... if the answer is no, i hope it lasted longer than mine .... if no, well ... you might want to consider the Roccat Alumic instead  (or even a logitech hardmat )

nope, i'm not paid by Roccat, tho i do, genuinely, not like Razer (with multiple reason and a lot of them are shared) Razer need to go .... or to go back to the time when they launched the Boomslang/Diamondback/Copperhead (and i am not talking about the recent copperhead) or even revise their prices, well ... specially for their Blades "disposable laptop" ... you don't pay a disposable camera the same price as a DSLR camera, right? (funny story behind that statement ;) ) ...

okay .... come again?

https://www.roccat.org/en-US/Products/Gaming-Mousepads/Alumic/
seek carefully .... (yep it's the one they've put on market years ago, almost at the same time as the Vespula "v1", except they do not need to do a V2.)
also:
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ROCCAT/Alumic/4.html
at the time (2012) it was 40€, well i paid mine 30€ 3yrs and 11 month ago
the cons are not cons anymore :D
  • Price (it became cheaper with the years passing .... tho even 40€ was not bad .... at last it wasn't 50 errrr 49.99 i mean )
  • Rubber stands (as it's not really a small mousemat, you rarely reach the edges were the rubber stands are )
lots more pro tho:
  • Great build quality (something Razer does not have ... and they proved it to me .... numerous time ;) )
  • Does not move around while gaming
  • Two different useable surfaces
  • Bundle includes a wrist rest (EH? seriously? )
  • No condensation issues despite the aluminum core
  • Noticeable differences between the two surfaces (only point where i disagree, although the "speed" side looks a bit more stealthy, which is a plus compared to the "electric blue" "control" side)
  • Adequate size for most gamers
  • Rubber stands

and in case your eyes betray you again ... :
IMG_20171026_181811.jpg IMG_20171026_181908.jpg IMG_20171026_181923.jpg
oh, one good point for that Vespula V2 .... it reminded me to clean my Alumic .... (not the control side .... i rarely use it ) for 3 yrs and 11 months it's not in a bad shape nonetheless.

on a sidenote .... it seems the Vespula v2 is a tad smaller than the previous ... (which was a tad smaller than the Alumic)

It's still fine other than some buildup on the surface. The tracking surface also bubbled up in the corner on the smooth side, had it since 2013, still use it today.

aye yep lucky it is still mostly fine ... though you should considere the Alumic, my own hasn't moved an inch: no bubbling (even on the side i don't use), no surface "scattering" (which was what killed the Vespula, albeit using the same gears with it ) and absolutely no performances issues/decrease over time, even tho it's bundled with a wristrest i rarely use it.

which point me toward the Roccat Dyad
https://www.roccat.org/en-US/Products/Gaming-Mousepads/Dyad/
which is a cloth surface steel core mousepad .... if i ever need a new mousepad .... though unlikely, the Alumic is indestructible (i also have a Roccat Siru aside, for the price paid .... quite a nice one compared to the Razer Destructor i also had, which the only redeeming feature for that one was the carrying hardcase, that could explain the overprice, the Destructor didn't failed, for me, to Razer reputation... all 4 edges cracked  )

the only thing that never failed me, for now, from Razer, is a mouse bungee albeit being overpriced as usual i got it during a sale, which leveled the price to an "acceptable" price for a bungee with nothing outstanding compared to other brands model (i.e.: no hub or addition but still priced similarly )

Dam! I just bought the first version which replaced my first first version that still had an aluminum plate, not plastic like they are now. I loved that first one and this first gen Vespula is ok, but I love the design of this new one way better! More simple.

Griever, I've had a Vespula v1 for over eight years now. I've crashed numerous mouses on this mat, but the thing is still working fine. My best friend, who recommended this mat to me back then, is also still using that same mousemat without any issue's. We're both pretty hardcore gamers. I'm not sure what you did, for your mat to be having a structural failure, but I haven't found many other reviews with people claiming similar things.

Looked into the Roccat Alumic. Looks neat, love the design. It's also €10 more expensive here. I also own the wrist piece of Rocco, use it for the keyboard part. Great rest, but it's separate from the mousemat. I often shift around the mat a little bit, if I change position, or when my cat decides to assault my lap. If I had to do that with the Roccat Alumic Mousmat, I know I have to read just the wrist part every time I move it a tiny bit. That the vespula has it integrated into it's design is perfect for me.

I'm not saying the Vespula is better. But you shouldn't stomp around, telling people they are lucky if it hasn't broken down after a few months, because I rather think you were an 'unlucky' case.

nah it's not unlucky, countless Razer peripheral countless failure on various sides...

not sure what i did to get structural damage? eh? ... absolutely nothing outside what i usually do with other brands that hold up quite fine opposed to Razer's one, heck even my Orochi has the surface that goes away

that brand need to go away or bring back Boomslang/Diamondhead/Copperhead level (which they can't)

oh on the wristpad side ... i don't need a wristpad ergo: the Alumic is the superior one, quality wise and price wise (20€ less than the Vespula ... pfeh ... )

oh well you are one lucky one indeed :)

and don't take Razer review too seriously ... after all people who test it have them for a quite shorter while than actual user like me or a lot of other that share my viewpoint on that overhyped overpriced brand
