Today, Stardock released a v2.6 update for its massive-scale RTS game, Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation. In addition to the new tutorials, the update includes several improvements, a new Quantum Upgrade, a rework of air production for the Substrate faction, adjustments to the way players repair their forces, and more.

"My biggest goal for this update was accessibility," said Callum McCole, lead designer for Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation. "Our old tutorial wasn't great at introducing new players to the basics and showing them how to play effectively, so we made it into a set and changed it to be more targeted and easier to follow."

To assist new players further, the UI has been condensed in order to display information more efficiently. Bigger icons for changing panels will improve the usability of investing in upgrades and calling down abilities. Changes aimed at improving the user experience and game readability are also featured in v2.6.

Additional changes in this update include:
  • New Quantum Upgrade: To provide additional opportunities for players to protect their Nexus from destruction, an optional upgrade for increasing the building's health has been added.
  • Production Scaling: Multiple engineers can now boost production of units and structures without any diminishing returns.
  • Repair Rework: Engineers will repair more quickly, but can only target buildings. To further distinguish roles, Medics will heal at the same rate but can only target other units.
  • Air Production Rework: Production of Substrate air units is moving exclusively to the Aviary building to allow for a more deliberate investment in air strategies.

"We continue to receive valuable feedback from our communities that helps us improve the game for everyone," said McCole. "While a lot of of these changes are great for new players, old veterans will also find something here that will satisfy them as we continue to distinguish unit roles and provide additional venues for deeper strategy and planning."

v2.6 is now available for download. Read the full changelog for more details.

Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation is available for only $39.99.

This game gets better and better. It really has turned into my go-to for large scale ground-based warfare sci-fi RTS fun, and it also pushes my system harder than any other game. :)
