Feral Interactive announced today that DiRT Rally, the acclaimed rally simulation game, will be released for macOS via Steam on November 16th. The Mac App Store version will be arriving shortly afterwards. Developed and published by Codemasters for Windows and consoles, DiRT Rally has been praised for its realistic handling and pure focus on rally driving. DiRT Rally will support Metal 2, Apple's latest graphics API.

DiRT Rally is the most authentic rally game ever made, with a highly sophisticated handling model that perfectly captures the exhilaration of driving cars at the edge of control while tearing along treacherous, undulating tracks at breakneck speed. Its high-risk, high-reward gameplay challenges players to learn and master three different disciplines: the point-to-point races of Rally, the tight circuits of Rallycross, and the legendary slopes of Hillclimb.

"DiRT Rally offers players a thrilling, mud-splattered racing experience, but under the bonnet, it's a meticulously-crafted game," said David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral Interactive. "As they tweak the brake bias and gear ratios of their cars, and take their skill and concentration to the limit on every combination of road surface and weather condition, players will discover a great game that's driven by detail."

DiRT Rally for macOS will be available from the Feral Store and Steam for $59.99/£39.99/€54.99.

System requirements will be confirmed closer to release.

I wonder , they keep pushing things like Metal 2 and AR/VR and all that but for whom , exactly? Most of the Macs they ship have pretty weak integrated graphics. They once used to put dedicated graphics in the MacBook Pro but now they no longer do even that. Really baffling.

Well most of those are pretty expensive and this seems again counter intuitive to me. You make all these thin laptops only to require these clunky boxes that basically ruin the portability that they so desperately tout every time ?

Don't know , we have plenty of laptops now that can be just as thin and still feature pretty powerful GPUs. Maybe they'll make laptops like those too eventually but as of now their actions seem strange to me.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
The Macbook Pro isn't cheap either. eGPUs offer gaming performance in laptops that simply can't or need more. If a user needs a portable gaming laptop, than an eGPU is obviously out of the question or at least a lot more cumbersome than a gaming laptop (which can be beasts themselves)... its not meant to be a portable solution, an eGPU, really.

Exactly but they once used to put decent GPUs in their laptops , now they don't when it would make most sense. Maybe the switch to AMD has something to do with it.

Dirt: Rally is also pretty old and will run on a potato too.

macos is worse than a potato when it comes to gaming performance.
People like to complain about linux but macos is half as good as linux which is 80-90% of windows and the lack of high performance macs makes this quite a demanding game for mac's LOL

I hope they also update the Windows client so that this game works on 7980XE... currently the game freaks out over the number of cores this CPU has and refuses to start unless you limit the cores available via the OS... one of my most favorite driving games of all time, this one.

I really like this game but multiplayer online is pretty much DEAD all the time, meaning there is no one online to play against most of the time. Oh well.

I have to play with it to find the perfect setting still. Much easier to just limit cores for me.

Get the new Dirt. :)

Got it, and it's night and day different from Dirt Rally. Dirt4 is easy, Dirt Rally is a real challenge that just keeps getting harder. At higher levels of difficulty, you best need to know how the cars handle for real and how to manipulate them for real if you want to win. That's part of why it's so great. The snow stages, are almost perfect (I just finished driving two hours in deep snow! :p).

Anyway, because of that difference, it makes a lot of sense that the Codies are spending time porting this one to MacOS, whereas Dirt4 is already working on that OS. To go back to update an older title really speaks volumes of what sort of following the Dirt Rally game has.
