Player Unknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is 2017's unexpected gaming success. The hero-arena shooter sold 20 million copies, earning its developer Bluehole an impressive $600 million in sales. Earlier this week, PUBG achieved the rare feat of the highest number of live gaming sessions, with 2.5 million concurrent players. That's 2.5 million people playing the game online at the same time.

This sets the record for most concurrent players for Steam, the DRM service distributing PUBG. Adding to that, PUBG is a PC-exclusive, with ports of the game to consoles only hitting the shelves in December. The Xbox One version will be released on December 12. The game is such a big commercial success that its developer Bluehole reincorporated itself as PUBG Corp.

And this my friends, is why PC scene is so broken.

I came from the future just to tell you that in 2025 people still playing LoL, dota, cs, tf2, pubg, minecraft and overwatch on pc, while the other games are still empty 1 month after release.

Not sure what to call the game other than fun and addictive. It's very buggy, not amazing graphically, has no story and very little depth . They hit the gameplay lottery though.

Same. There are already quite a few of these king of the hill mode style games ARMA III had it, H1Z1 had it, Fornite is a new one.... There are probably 3 or 4 more others that I cant remember the name of but are exactly the same thing.

Hm, always thought it looked like a fun game, and considering the steep system requirements for it to run smoothly there must be something they are doing right.

If I had more time, I'd definitely give a spin to this or Fortnite, I'm a sucker for cartoony/plastic graphics.

The game is okay. There are lots of bugs, cheats and piss poor netcode floating around the game still and it's supposed to "officially" release soon (in the next 4-6 weeks, from what I last heard). There is a lot of work needed before I would consider the game to actually being called a finished project. If you want some good laughs, you can always look for youtube videos of PUBG cheats, some are really funny, yet sad at the same time how rampant and easy the game is when you cheat.

I personally don't understand the hype behind the game myself. I've put in 39 hours into the game since it was purchased (well, someone gave me $20 steam gift card to use towards it and I only had to spend $9.99 on it) for me on 5/23/17. I really only play it to shoot the shit with some friends and we don't really take the game seriously - some matches we put in effort, other matches we just screw around.

Last handful of matches I played, my 4 man team, we were all dropped by headshots in under a second while driving in a car. All kills were by the same person using an ump.
We had a guy take multiple shots from everyone on my team and not die, he then proceeded to kill us all with a M416 while jumping and spinning in the air.
We had a game where we landed in an area with two (just two that we saw land with us) and upon entering a house one of my teammates was being followed by someone not on our team. My teammate picked up a weapon in the house, turned around and was killed by the non-team person with a scar - I don't know how this was possible since we all literally just landed and there was no way anyone of us or the guys that landed with us could have had a weapon that fast.
The last match a guy was jumping up to see over a wall and killed my whole team with headshots while jumping.

We stopped playing after that. That was about a week back now and I haven't been in the game since. I don't know about my friends, they play the game more than I do....I just don't see how they enjoy it so much with the cheating and poor synching. It's really just one of those games I wish I didn't spend any money on. I tend to just play it now and again because I spent money on it and one of my friends was kind enough to front most of the cost for me.

There was just an update last night which addressed the cheating and introduced new preventative measures. Ive seen it too, and it is in EVERY MP game, cheating... so... nothing new to me.

+1, main reason people play those games:
No DLC needed to play happy, cheap with multiplayer, comp scenarios and funny minigames on some, so the real reason why PC gaming and new titles are so hostile: studios try to milk the most from customers, that is another reason why pirates still rocks on 2017 for most new titles,

so thanks so much EAgames, ubish*t and plenty others for screwing people that much with the new garbage.... indeed

It is not even a decent game...it was(still is) full of bugs and problems, especially with cheaters. Imo they found a very good competitive idea combined with good ingame atmosphere

I really don't see the problem with it honestly....

The cheating has been addressed (its effectiveness who knows). The worst part about it, to me, is just how clunky movement is. Netcode isn't as bad as BF4. Typically I care about graphics, but, the gameplay, for once, overrides that (to me).

It's only 30 bucks man. If you play it for a few hours you got your money's worth. The way I see it...if I can pay $15.00 to see a movie for 1.5 hours anything I get entertainment wise is pretty fair. I don't know, I don't really play too much anyhow.

Time will tell, right? It was implemented not even 24 hours ago. As I said, I am unsure how effective it is, but again, it's been less than 24 hours since the patch. They also banned 10s of thousands of accounts a couple weeks ago.

Can't catch them all.. and at least its pointed in the right direction.
