AMD EPYC 7601 Processors Set Two New World Records on SPEC CPU Benchmarks

​AMD today announced that the new Hewlett Packard Enterprise ProLiant DL385 Gen10 server, powered by AMD EPYC processors set world records in both SPECrate2017_fp_base and SPECfp_rate2006. The secure and flexible 2P 2U HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Server joins the HPE Cloudline CL3150 server in featuring AMD EPYC processors. With designs ranging from 8-core to 32-core, AMD EPYC delivers industry-leading memory bandwidth across the HPE line-up, with eight channels of memory and unprecedented support for integrated, high-speed I/O with 128 lanes of PCIe 3 on every EPYC processor.

We now give customers another option to optimize performance and security for today's virtualized workloads," said Justin Hotard, vice president and GM, Volume Global Business Unit, HPE. AMD EPYC Leadership Cost-per-VM Server Configurations
The performance of AMD EPYC is delivered by up to 64-cores in the HPE DL385 2P server configuration and access to 4 terabytes of memory and 128 lanes of PCIe connectivity. The combination of core-count and features attains up to 50 percent lower cost per virtual machine (VM) HPE sees over traditional server solutions.

  • An AMD EPYC model 7601-based HPE DL385 Gen10 system scored 257 on SPECrate2017_fp_base, higher than any other two socket system score published by SPEC.1
  • An AMD EPYC model 7601-based HPE DL385 Gen10 system scored 1980 on SPECfp_rate2006, higher than any other two socket system score published by SPEC.2

"The HPE DL385 positions the AMD EPYC processor right in the heart of the high-volume market where dual-socket servers are frequently deployed by service providers, large enterprises and small-to-medium size businesses," said Matt Eastwood, senior vice president, enterprise, datacenter and cloud infrastructure, IDC. "With its combination of high-performance cores, memory bandwidth and PCIe connectivity options it is an attractive choice to address a wide range of business applications and workloads."

AMD Secure Processor
Every EPYC processor integrates hardware based security. The ProLiant DL385 delivers unmatched security via the HPE Silicon Root of Trust enabling only validated firmware to run. The HPE Silicon Root of Trust is linked to the AMD Secure Processor in the AMD EPYC SoC for firmware validation before the server boots.

The AMD Secure Processor and HPE DL385 also enables:
  • Secure Encrypted Memory − All the memory or a portion of the memory can be encrypted to protect data against memory hacks and scrapes.
  • Secure Encrypted Virtualization − VMs have separate encryption keys as does the hypervisor, isolating the VMs from one another and from the hypervisor itself.

Availability
The HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 server with AMD EPYC will be available in December 2017.

AMD shouldn't talk about thermal paste because their CPU oc 150-200MHz,
most Graphic card OC higher but
whole line for X299 Express should be 40 PCI-E lanes and soldered IHS. From cheapest i7-7800 to most expensive i9-7980X. 18 core moster with thermal paste. Such paste is not more than 50$ per kg. I don't make difference from good or bad paste, it's paste-wrong. That's new wrong innovation, CPU shouldn't see market in such condition. Special expensive models with few hundred dollars.

That is great, but AMD is still too much of a "budget" brand. GPU-wise AMD is "good" but not quite great yet.

Awesome cpu's and great GPU's are what I want from AMD. They're close, but for high refresh gamming Intel is better (unless you REALLY dislike CPU heavy settings) and vega simply is a power hog.

Love AMD, but from what I can tell, the focus lies on servers, not so much consumers with singlethreaded applications and games.

Ehm... so 35-40% lower on performance at the power signature of a 1080ti is not bad? This confirms Vega is AMD's Maxwell really, perf/watt is almost identical.

If you mean it doesn't pull 300w, OK, point taken. Unfortunately, the Vega 64 does.

BH reactions to underdog shining are mind boggling.

Maybe not Epyc, but Ryzen and Threadripper OC terrible. Not even Zenith and Crosshair can't do nothing and you waste money on expensive motherboards.
From other side Intel keep record in overclocking CPU out of box. Not records how much will some overclocker reach, not max frequency, I talk about avarage OC of normal users out of box. Nothing can beat i7-5960X, 1400-1500MHz OC average. Than you are happy to pay 400-450$ for motherboard, than OC CPU, than OC CPU Cache frequency, change voltage and settings of motherboard, install Monoblock to cooldown VRM. Not watercooling for 55C VRM without heatsink.
I search now for used i7-5960X and i7-6900K sometimes even bid on Ebay. If I find i7-6900K for similar price or lower than i7-7820X I will get 8 cores, flux soldered IHS as I have now or I would not be able to run Prime95 on 62C, that would be 80C, not overclocked as now but on lower clock while most of Intels last years run away from Prime95 like vampire from cross and off course 40 PCI-E lanes. Than I will compare i7-6900K 4.3GHz with i7-7820X 4.3GHz because I'm curious to see real improvement. I couldn't find on internet.
But maybe is even better to wait launch date of Intel Z390 and than price of i7-6950X drop.
That's best when you outperform new Intel 8 cores Z390 with 4 years old platform.
Because of that I liked more Express chipset.

It's not important how much OC only because satisfaction, it's important because performance increase, can you compare performance improvement of i7-5960X 3000MHz > 4500Mhz and 4000MHz Cache and Ryzen 3600 > 4100MHz. 100Mhz over Turbo Intel OC 1000MHz over Turbo. Than people say Ryzen 1800X is better, it's not better. If you buy both and OC to max both on nice motherboards Intel will be faster and CPU Frequency and better memory and you enjoy in OC, and it's 3 years earlier show up. 3 years is long period, for 3 years NVIDIA improve GPU 200%.

You seem to have trouble with simple math

The 1080ti is at 136% and Vega 56 at 94%.

35-40% lower is being lenient on Vega.
