You'd be amazed of how many serious players will flock to this. I see no point in putting money into something that will never finish.

I've been waiting for this game for a long time. I got the AMD R9 290 bundle free game key way back, comes with Mustang Omega ship and Squadron 42. I only purchased a LTI Avenger for $50 and LTI Dragonfly for $15. I'm still waiting for 3.0 to go public, it's currently on PTU.

Do you at least acknowledge we can have this conversation well into 2050s when RSI is working on their beta 10 and adjusting the engine and AI to take advantage of the newly released 10,000 CPUs and whatnot?

As I have said before:
1. Titles that expanded in scope after their initial release are not unusual.
2. Nothing that's being worked on SC right now precludes the release of a flight sim.

Absolutely, I'll acknowledge that. But to outright shout 'its a scam' seems too strong in this instance, to me. Its not a scam - if the project does fail, we can probably agree it was badly managed.

At the same time, I do see all of the struggle that simply occurs with any large scale IT development project. Lots of detractors, lots of impediments, scope adjustments, and technical difficulties are really quite common. That knowledge combined with what I can already see and play, and how it actually feels playing it, and flying it, does convince me that the degree of polish and finetuning they aim for needs this time and budget.

Does that convince me enough to invest more than what I'd have paid for a simple Freelancer remake? No. 35 bucks is as far as I'll go :) If I'd lose the 35 today, I wouldn't even feel scammed because of the window SC offered/offers into what is possible. On the other hand, if you feel like you're a true stakeholder already with hundreds + spent, then yes, you can easily get scammed.

Fair enough. As a software developer I know this isn't how projects usually unfold, so I'm more inclined to be skeptical about SC. But hey, I'd be more than happy to eat my words when CIG releases the jaw-dropping space sim I have been missing since Freelancer.

I don't understand why this hasn't been done. When I first heard about SC I thought that S42 was going to be finished first and then that would be used as the core for SC.
