Deep Silver and 4A Games today announced that Metro Exodus is set for release in Autumn 2018, on Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation4 computer entertainment system, and PC. Revealed during The Game Awards, The Aurora Trailer offers a glimpse of post-apocalyptic Moscow - a hostile world locked in an endless nuclear winter. The desperate survivors who cling to existence beneath the surface in the ruins of the Metro have long given up hope of a life beyond Moscow... all except for one.

As Artyom, you must flee the Metro and lead a band of Spartan Rangers on an incredible, continent-spanning journey across post-apocalyptic Russia in search of a new life in the East. This thrilling story-line will span an entire calendar year through the changing seasons. Inspired by the internationally best-selling novels Metro 2033 and Metro 2035 by Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro Exodus continues Artyom's story in the greatest Metro adventure yet.

"We were overwhelmed by our fans' reaction to the announcement of Metro Exodus at E3," said Andriy Prokhorov, creative director and co-founder at 4A Games. "We're sorry to have kept you waiting so long for further news, but you'll be hearing a lot more from us in the months ahead."

That's exactly how I feel too. And then if they have delays, which is normal, it'll be 2019!

If you were stuck in radioactive Russia, a little annoyance with a mask would be your last concern.

I can't wait for this game to kick my ass but the fact that this trailer is 1080p is f*cking ridiculous. PC, PS4 and XBox One X (or whatever) ALL render in 4K now so there is no excuse. UGH so frustrating. Also....hey everyone! :-D

Well, 45% or so of people still using 1080p, and a tiny 1-2% on 4K, so there's your answer.

I like both Stalker and Metro series in their own way. This has the potential to merge the two in terms of gameplay.

Stalker was a awesome game, there was much more freedom. Now if the new Metro was more like Stalker i be way more interested.

That's exactly how I feel too. And then if they have delays, which is normal, it'll be 2019!

But i am not, and it's the main concern in that game and i play games to have fun, and to be bothering with air filters than any thing else is not fun.

I fear that the switch to more open world environments will result into an overall loss of detail and atmosphere , which is what this series was all about. I mean there's only so many metro tunnels you can explore before they all start to look the same and it gets boring.

Anyway , meanwhile I'll play the 2 previous games again...for the 10th time. :D

Yes it will be interesting to see how that plays out. At the same time, 'open world' has been seen in many different shapes. Look at the open 'world' (city block lol) of Deus Ex: MD for example. It has its freedom, but it also has its linearity preserved in many places and merges story with unlocking the map in a smart way. It can be done, and I think Metro should be using such an approach over 'free roam', certainly.

Also about that pic of linear map with cutscenes... that basically describes Metro 2033 and LL :D It was 100% linear, it just didn't have a whole lot of cutscenes, it all happened as scripted/triggered events in-game. Has little to do with the consoles I think, the days where a shooter is 'like DOOM' are long past, and honestly, it would make zero sense to run back and forth across the map for keycards all the time in Metro :p
