BenQ announces the ZOWIE XL2740 monitor. The XL2740 is a 27 inch PC e-Sports monitor with native 240hz refresh rate providing gamers with another option to suit their personal preference. It has the same features as the smaller 24.5 inch XL2540 and in order to experience the benefits in-game, people who are interested should make sure their computer is able to generate over 240 frames per second (fps) consistently. Please stay tuned to our social media for information regarding availability in your region.

That's for hardcore CSGO players and such. 1080p on 27" monitor makes it easier to get those sweet headshots. Plus, 240Hz.
Some people will appreciate this. Not me though.

Seriously, How many people really need 4K@240fps monitors? Do you think it's a group worth a fuss for an LCD manufacturer today?

Some of us value impeccable details in their Fallout 4, so they go for a 4K LCD.
Some are into competitive CS, so they buy 144 ot 240fps (I'm just saying it's a reason, not that it's reasonable).
And we have a decent choice of 4K@60Hz and 1080p@240Hz.

So who is 4K@240fps for? Seriously?

Also, just how old would an AAA game have to be, to achieve 240fps in 4K with high details on a 1080Ti?
Are we talking about games from 2010? 2005? Any guess?
I've just checked Skyrim and it's a no.

Actually I self prefer 1440 @ 144Hz and cannot imagine anything beyond that. It was a very positive experience when I moved away from 60Hz to 144Hz for competitive gaming. One of the best investment I made in 2017.

This has to be the shortest official press release I've ever seen, lol.

I've got the XL2720Z which does 1080p at 144Hz, has a strobing backlight and supports 3D Vision. For my next monitor, I want all the same features, but with 4K resolution. However, that doesn't exist yet so I'll sit tight until then.

It's a fantastic monitor, by the way.

Its an eSports monitor. Those players dont give a rats ass about anything higher than 1080p. They want those Hz. Most of them dont even run native 1080p. Over 50% of CSGO eSport pros, use 4:3 ratio. This is because a large majority of them are pros from 1.6 and Source days when CRT monitors and widescreen wasnt mainstream yet. Changing to other resolutions, changes their mouse sensitivity, so they would have to re-adapt to the change in feeling, which is less than ideal for people at the top of their game. Its all about comfort for those guys, rather than image quality.

No adaptive refresh?

Because all adaptive refresh methods don't work when FPS is above the refresh rate. People run CSGO at 300-400fps. Believe it or not, CSGO feels like 30fps even if its running at or below ~200fps.

People always complaining about this type of products. This is meant to play quake ir cs with top notch motion clarity and low input lag. Period. If you want a good witcher 3 or skyrim monitor just get an oled and be happy.

I don't know 27'' monitor seems too big to me for competitive FPS but I don't play competitively so what do I know :D

240hz is 100% marketing nonsense.

90% of the time and in 99% of all games you will never even remotely achieve that FPS in the first place. So if you love to pay too much for a placebo advantage in one game, by all means, jump on this. More gloriously overpriced TN for the idiots. Also as some people managed: server tickrates. If you have a 60 tickrate its already 'good'. 120 is rare. 240? Not in your wildest dreams.

For me and probably millions of other people going from 60hz to 120hz is a massive difference. 120hz to 240 is probably again, a massive difference. I want to say, that you might have sources supporting the 240hz rate but...this is supposed to be for straight up gaming so I guess it doesn't matter.

Does the server have a 30Hz tickrate?

No, CSGO servers from Valve are 64 tick. Third party clients to competitive queuing are 128 tick.
