At its new product launch suite along the sidelines of the 2018 International CES, Be Quiet showed off a large number of new products, beginning with the Dark Rock Pro 4, the company's new flagship CPU air cooler, and its second-fiddle, the Dark Rock 4. These are two entirely different coolers. While the Dark Rock Pro 4 is dual fin-stack aluminium fin tower cooler, the Dark Rock 4 is features a single but thick aluminium fin-stack. Seven 6 mm-thick copper heat pipes pass through the two fin-stacks int he Dark Rock Pro 4, which are ventilated by two fans in push-pull configuration, even as the cooler can hold up to three fans. The outside "push" fan is a 120 mm SilentWings 3, while the "pull" fan, nestled between the two fin stacks, is a larger 135 mm SilentWings fan. You can run the cooler without the outer 120 mm fan.

The Dark Rock Pro 4 is designed to handle thermal loads of up to 250W, which means it supports a variety of HEDT CPU socket types. Be Quiet hopes to launch this cooler some time in Q2-2018. The Dark Rock 4, on the other hand, features a more conventional single fin-stack tower design, with six 6 mm-thick copper heat pipes transporting heat through the fin-stack. The heatsink is venilated by a 135 mm SilentWings fan. The Dark Rock 4 can handle thermal loads of up to 200W, and it too will feature support for various HEDT CPU sockets. This cooler is slated for Q2-2018, too. Both models feature improvements to the fin design, including small dots that increase surface area, and a dark ceramic coating that improves heat dissipation.

Is the base plate large enough to cover threadripper? or like most coolers on market tr4 users have to look elsewhere.

I wonder if they're designed to work with ram slots this time...

It's not designed with sTR4 in mind.

There are cutouts on either side, and the fan can also be moved up. Ultra tall RAM probably still won't fit, but most others should be fine. No measurements were done for confirmation though.

In a couple days I can tell you first hand how the Dark Rock Pro 3 does on an 8700k :)

Its funny, always when I order stuff (and I don't do that very often) for upgrades, new stuff comes out that is a revision of what I've ordered. When I got my 1080 vanilla, the 11GBps just came out :D

Obviously the industry is waiting on you to order to get their new products out the door. It's the only logical explanation :p

Edit: I got my Crucial MX300 on December 4 ;)

Well I'll pass either way. I didn't like my pro 3 totally blocking my ram slots on my MSI M5 board and they are lower profile sticks. It barely clears the slot itself. Plus it looked to be hanging and if I tightened it anymore something was going to snap or strip.

Yeah thats another example, and lack of MX500's available still pushed me to an 850 EVO :p I believe the 500 is out in what, two days?

I don't regret it, it's just a storage drive. Though to my surprise it benches worse than my old Vertex4 drives. I have an 850 EVO for games, for storage I thought it was a bit too expensive.

Noctua still is pretty sexy IMO even with the poop colored fans. :D It just oozes quality

Thats also my reason for this Dark Rock Pro; I just wanted a black heatsink, to go with my mostly black build ;) Wanted to go all white but that realllly limits component options

As long as you don't buy the redux series. Those are trash.

The Noctua Redux series fans are awful, there's a reason they're so much cheaper. For me they have 100% failure rate, 2 out of 2 let out the magic smoke back to back. The second time it happened I laughed, hooked my cheap Coolermaster fan back up and sent those Redux junks back.

They have good reviews there but there are the only fans I have ever had instantly fail on me. Others have failed me but after god knows how many hours.

That's nuts! I've purchased a few dozen Redux fans without any issues - that's some really bad luck, sorry to hear.

Just curious, did you try contacting their support? I had a F12 reduce with a bad bearing and they sent me a new one a week later :)

I returned them to Amazon and just said forget it. I went with BeQuiet fans instead although I have them laying around somewhere. Went with an AIO so I could have my ram slots and piece of mind the cooler wasn't pulling itself off of the processor.
