NVIDIA through the changelog of one of its Linux driver releases may have spilled the beans in an as of yet unannounced, unreleased product. The company's Max-Q variants of their graphics cards typically trade performance for power efficiency, sitting the designs somewhat more optimally in the power/performance ratio curve. The fact that NVIDIA is looking to bolster efficiency of its GTX 1050 with a Max-Q design is likely aimed at competing with the performance level of the already announced Intel + AMD EMIB design, where an Intel discrete CPU is paired with a discrete, Vega-based AMD GPU and its accompanying HBM2 memory stacks, in a small, extremely power efficient package (when compared with current designs.)

The folks at Notebookcheck expect the 1050 Max-Q to perform about 10 to 15 percent slower than the standard 1050 and 1050 Ti, respectively, with TDP likely ranging between 34 W to 46 W - NVIDIA is aiming at the same market that the >AMD + Intel EMIB collaboration is going after (thin, light, adequate performance solutions.)

Well if the new Intel CPU's in the marrage with AMD then this Invidia offering will be geared toward AMD CPU's....Hmmm seems like a win win for AMD but couldn't AMD now also offer their same Intel marriage to their GPU's with AMD owns CPU's to even counter Invidia some more?

GTX 1050 is already very slow. Making it 10-15% slower, what's the point of it then? I bet AMD's APU's are already that fast and they are super efficient single chip solutions even at "massive" old 28nm.

It mainly becomes the question of price, performance and price/performance. I am not sure how much being compact comes into play with 65/100w TDP.
So far, the integrated Vega does not seem to be excessively powerful. Intel's own slides probably do not paint an accurate picture of how fast it is vs competition.
Judging by screenshots, that Vega is considerably larger than Intel's 4-core Kaby/Coffee lake CPU. These CPUs are in the range of 125mm². GP107 (1050/1050Ti) is 132mm².

Why not just set clock and voltage profiles in Afterburner, this is dumb to release another SKU. How about getting 1100 series ready?

There is no profit to reap with that. We need this new "design" and it will cost more but damned you will still enjoy it!

GTX 1050Ti is better IMO, brings almost twice the performance over prev. gen. GTX 960.. but the non-Ti version is slower...

I've had 1050Ti for a short time. 1080p gaming with reasonable quality settings (Normal) for the most part. For the money, it's quite alright.

Nvidia keeps having this habit of releasing products just for the sake of doing so. This GPU serves no purpose no matter how you look at it.

By the way "Max-Q" is essentially what the "M" versions used to be. They are just underclocked parts.
