Sapphire over the weekend officially launched its cost-effective custom-design Radeon RX Vega 56 graphics card, the Pulse Radeon Vega 56 (model: 11276-02), which began appearing on European e-tailers late-January. The card combines a custom-design short-length PCB that's roughly the length of AMD's reference R9 Fury board; with a beefy custom-design cooling solution that features two large aluminium fin-stacks, ventilated by a pair of 100 mm double ball-bearing fans.

The card offers out of the box clock speeds of 1208 MHz core, 1512 MHz boost, and 800 MHz (1.60 GHz HBM2 effective) memory, against AMD reference clock speeds of 1138 MHz core and 1474 MHz boost. At its given clock, the memory bandwidth on offer is 409.6 GB/s. The "Vega 10" silicon is configured with 3,584 stream processors, 192 TMUs, and 64 ROPs. The card draws power from a pair of 8-pin PCIe power connectors, display outputs include three DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI 2.0. Sapphire intended for this SKU to ideally occupy a close-to-reference price-point, a notch below its Nitro+ series, however in the wake of the crypto-currency wave, market-forces will decide its retail price.

There are quite a few (3 versions) of 56's available at OcUK but they are all £949 - £999.

I'd like to know how much OcUK pay for their cards and who is doing the gouging.

There are 1080ti's in stock as well that are slightly cheaper.

Overclockers UK were the ones that stared the rumor that AMD was offering rebates for a limited period of time , I am sure they would still tell you that and deny that they are doing any price gouging .

Have to say I love the design of this board. As long as the VRM hasn't been downgraded for the sake of compactness, I'd say this is an all-round improvement on the reference board. There's little reason for the board to be bigger regardless of cooler design, and the small size adds flexibility (you could still put a beefy blower on there, a hefty open-air cooler like this (with improved flow thanks to the short PCB), or make a teeny-tiny water cooled beast.

Of course all of this is moot seeing how it's impossible to buy a GPU these days anyhow, but I'd like to (well, given my custom loop cooling and impending move to an ITX case, I need to) see designs like this stay around for when my Fury X starts feeling old.

So, at least $1000?

Vega 56 is £850 while Vega 64 is £950 for preorders in the UK. That's inc tax, so in American dollars pre-tax you're looking at $1050 for 64 and $950 for the 56.

There are quite a few (3 versions) of 56's available at OcUK but they are all £949 - £999.

OCUK's cut is larger than most online retailers, although for once they're cheaper than Scan. I've spoken with a number of brick and mortar computer stores and they're telling me that they haven't changed their % cut, but the price rise is due to the mass supplier they buy from increasing the price. They're next shipment is due to increase base price by 20% apparently, so things are only going to get worse. AMD have stated the shortage of GPUs is due to HBM still.

The PCB size and the power connectors position are very similar to XFX's Double Edition.
True, only XFX's designers apparently think that blocking airflow is a goal in and of itself. Compared to the potentially exposed heatsink size, those backplate vents are tiny. Not to mention that the long backplate precludes re-use with a third-party water block. Sapphire definitely went the right way here, both compared to XFX and their own previous Fury Nitro design.

So, 5 months after it was 5 months late already. These aftermarket ones were suppose to come out in October 2017 and it's February 2018 now. And it'll still be unobtainable thanks to dumb ass miners or they'll just be ridiculously priced, making zero sense again. Which, pricing Vega 56 at 850€ and Vega 64 at 950€ is exactly that. It just makes absolutely no sense.

They'll just make up some new shit crypto currency and everything starts all over again. This crap will never end.

...it'll still be unobtainable thanks to dumb ass miners...

Y'know, I disagree with you calling miners "dumb ass miners" just because 1) you are late to the game or 2) you feel insecure about memory and graphics card prices. Yeah, I get it, the prices are pretty bad. It's human greed at its finest. You can't blame people for their desire to want to make money (even if the consequence is that it negatively affects their environment such as electrical, heat, economies, etc).

1) I'm not late to the game because I was never interested in literally burning kilowatts of power to make money 2) Insecure about graphic card prices? Are you insane? Mid end cards are going for as much as I paid for almost top of the line GTX 1080Ti. That's not insecurity, that's insanity.

Since I wrote this the prices have dropped £100. I wonder if they felt guilty?

Abra Cadabra, pickary trickary - watch how miners slow a whole industry!

So serious question how does selling more product, slow down an industry? Wouldn't that increase gross income/margin since they are selling at higher rates, which would entice a manufacturer to increase performance/release new products?

1) Cool - but some are interested in consumption of kilowatts of electricity to make money. You might not be interested but, again, there are others who are.
2) Cool - but look up the definition of insecurity

Just tired of you constantly spewing your vitriol here. You seriously have nothing to do but to respond to every article with your opinions and only your opinions are correct. Seriously though, you are too easy to bait and you just proved that point to me (and possibly others).
