The wait is nearly over as Elite Dangerous: Beyond - Chapter One arrives on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 27. Beyond, the third Elite Dangerous season will be free for all players, and will focus on community-requested enhancements to the overall player experience. Alongside those core foundational changes, new in-game content will progress the ever-expanding player-driven storyline and give pilots across the galaxy new tools to shape the ongoing narrative.

With the release of Chapter One the crime and punishment system in Elite Dangerous will undergo a series of changes designed to improve the response to players' criminal activities, making Open Play's massively multiplayer galaxy fairer and more competitive. The new Advance Tactical Response will be on the hunt for repeat offenders, 'Hot Ships' attach crimes to players' spacecrafts, and new notoriety levels increase consequences for illegal activities making the galaxy a more challenging place for veteran pilots.

With the introduction of GalNet Audio the main source of news in Elite Dangerous becomes easily accessible as commanders can catch up on the latest updates and engage with the overarching narrative without ever leaving the action.

Starting February 27, new contacts will become available for Elite Dangerous Horizons owners as tech brokers, dealers of rare tools and technologies, give players a chance to acquire new items based on their personal narrative and experience. In addition, material traders will allow commanders to convert and exchange materials, making engineering and unlocking missions with tech brokers more accessible.

Beyond - Chapter One also features an array of improvements and updates, including the addition of a trade data overlay helping commanders find the most profitable trades in the Milky Way, changes to the engineering mechanics which ensure guaranteed improvement when crafting, the overhaul of the mission rewards system as well as the introduction of a new combat ship, The Chieftain, built as a response to the new Thargoid threat.

I feel like you really need a joystick or something to really enjoy this game. I have tried on three separate occasions with a keyboard/mouse and it just doesnt work well.

I'm afraid you're correct, CBXP. You definitely want at least a basic 'stick, if not a semi-solid HOTAS setup to really enjoy it.
POE is waning a bit in the enjoyment in the house, I'm thinking about letting E: D do it's update thing overnight, and checking to see where it stands for a bit.... especially since I've got a new chair coming in soon :)

@CrAsHnBuRnXp

I enjoyed it with a HOTAS setup, but honestly play more with mouse+KB now so I can go between gaming laptop and gaming PC. My combat abilities are not as sharp without using my fighter stick pro, but at the end of the day being able to easily transition between systems and keep playing makes it all worth it. Your Acer Predator will kick its ass, I have an Acer Predator 15 2015 model iirc. It handles Elite Dangerous quite nicely, your 34 will surely dominate. :)

I use a Logitech Quiet Click mouse with my laptop and I change the keyboard config.

I move the 1-4 keys to F1-F4, which IMHO makes more sense for those assignments.

I set the throttle so that 1=0%, 2=25%, 3=50%, 4=75%, 5=100%. Then I set W and S to be forward and reverse thrust rather than throttle.

I forget what other keys I change but those are the major ones. But those changes make the biggest difference for me. I use 3 and 4 a lot of the time, especially in combat, then W and S allow me to fine tune my speed more easily. It isn't as dynamic or easy as say a dedicated throttle, but I find it works pretty damn well overall regardless. Having used a mix of things, my favorite combo is still the Fighter Stick Pro USB + Logitech G13 gaming keyboard. I setup the key assignments similar to the above anyways...and while I own both devices still, I am choosing mouse + keyboard at this point in time still...again for overall ease of transition and keeps my desk clear lol.

Frankly I haven't played recently, and while I was tempted to beta test this new update, I just didn't have time. But I'm itching to get back into this and buy that new ship! :D

Probably! I'm not so well endowed I use a controller to play. Colonia is the hot spot in the galaxy ATM though it takes a bit to jump too.

I play this game with mouse and keyboard for 3 years now, since it was relised... Tryed stick but it is not precise enough. Also it gets worn out very fast with so many hours in game (more than 20 weeks in game play) :D. Much easear to fight and target fixed wepons with mouse. Also there is so many keybindings that only the most expensive HOTAS are good enough, but they to get worn out . Some frequent keys get loose even with the best HOTAS. With good keybidings it can be very good with keyboard. I can post my keybidings if anybody wants....

Hey :) Guess I'm back. Last time I played it was with kb/m and it works really really well, but I do have a lot of custom keybinds and a few macros. Sadly even though I've logged in recently I haven't been able to actually play because my university blocks the game. Next year I'm living off campus though, and I'll be playing 3.0 over spring break!

Also to add, when I did use a HOTAS I flew with it and used the keyboard off to the side for other things I just couldn't map to the HOTAS.
