ASUS Intros VG258Q 25-inch Ultra Fast Gaming Monitor

ASUS introduced the VG258Q, a relatively cost-effective 25-inch gaming-grade monitor. Its Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution is nothing to write home about, but the 144 Hz refresh-rate, 1 ms response time (gray to gray), ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur (TV-type stutter compensation feature), and support for AMD FreeSync technology, and TUV Rheinland-certified flicker-free LED back-lighting, could pique your interest. Other vital specs include a TN-film panel, 400 cd/m² maximum brightness, dynamic mega-contrast ratio, and ASUS GamePlus enhancements, which include presets specific to game genres, OSD crosshair, frame-rate counters, etc. Display inputs include DisplayPort 1.2a (needed for FreeSync), HDMI 1.4, and dual-link DVI-D. The company didn't reveal pricing.

for $199 I might be interested. The Acer VA 24" 3000:1 144hz curved often goes on sale for $179... I have had my eye on it... knowing Asus though its going to run $300, which is dumb, since I could just buy a 240hz freesync at that price on sale.

Spec-wise everything was looking interesting until i've read "TN". GTFO with TNs already, pls. Also there is no listed lower value of freesync range. Anyway, i'm already using freesync display and i am waiting for 24-27", non-TN, 30-144Hz Freesync 2, 2560x1440, not curved.

Display port is not requirement for freesync as it works also over HDMI.

Yeah, I am waiting for a 25" high quality IPS (i gave up on OLED and Micro-LED arriving anytime in the next 4 years), my dream specs are: 25" 2560x1440 180hz or 165hz IPS Freesync 2 or Gsync 2, depending which GPU I end up going with in 2019 when I plan to do my ultimate build.

These people paying 2 grand next month for the 4k 144hz IPS panels are just fooling themselves, even the 2080 ti next year won't even be able to come close in majority of games to break 90hz. and 4k at 27" really is kind of crappy, I owned it before and it was a little off... lot of text issues unlike 1440p at 27".

Trying 144hz after using 240hz for so long, is like going back to 60hz. Awful smear, ghosting and blur. I´m out. Bring more 240hz models instead and lower its prices.

I agree with you mostly. but 165hz seems to be the sweet spot for me, 240hz actually felt a little weird to me.

CONCLUSION / REVIEW : ASUS VG258Q ...

Not worth the price, it just a 100 dollar quality monitor with better speed ...
YES, you spent more than half of it's price buying the " SPEED " ...
A 150 dollar monitor . color quality can be better than this one ...
The viewing angle will only be direct stragiht, any slight tilt of you neck and
the color will change ...

About the speed ... 144Hz is a hoax, yes , you can run 144Hz but with a lot
of sttuter and jiggle ... So the DP port is pointless ...
Besides ... when you turn on this monitor , there is a big " HDMI " logo shown
at the corner .. ( why not diplayport or DVI logo )
AND YES, when using the HDMI port, which yo can only run at 120Hz,
but this 120Hz is flawless silky smooth .. everything is sooo smooth, even
web scrolling ...

AS I mention, you pay more than half of it's price buying the 120Hz smoothness ... and that's all
