Xiaomi held its Mi Mix 2S launch event at Shanghai, China a few hours ago where the Chinese giant revealed their first-ever gaming laptop. The Mi Gaming Laptop sports a clean, brushed aluminum chassis which measures 20.9mm at its thickest point. Being a gamer-oriented product, Xiaomi has added RGB lighting to four different zones around the laptop's body. The Mi Gaming Laptop features a 15.6-inch Full HD panel with a 72% color gamut and slim 9.9mm bezels. The keyboard also has its own RGB lighting and comes with features like 30-key rollover and five programmable keys. In terms of connectivity options, the Mi Gaming laptop provides users with four high-speed USB 3.0 ports, two USB-C ports, a HDMI port, and a 3.5mm jack with its own high-powered amp. Equipped with stereo 3W speakers, the laptop has also earned the Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio certifications.

For cooling, Xiaomi implemented their own 3+2 design for the heatpipes and four air exhausts. Xiaomi's solution relies on two fans to provide active cooling. The Mi Gaming laptop is powered by Intel's latest Kaby Lake Core i7-7700HQ processor and it's available in two versions. The base version carries a $960 price tag and comes with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, 8GB of memory, a 128GB SSD and a 1TB hard drive. The high-end version goes for $1,440 and boasts an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, 16GB of memory, a 256GB NVMe SSD, and a 1TB hard drive. The Mi Gaming Laptop will go on sale in China from April 13.

Quite late to the party, I would say. Unless they upgrade it shortly after release with six core cpu(Those coffee lake mobile cpus can't be that far of)...

For the looks though. Don't really care about RGB lightning, but what stick to the my eyes more is those hideous looking hinges.

I've seen hinges like this in other applications and they work very well and are durable. They may look wonky but they are strong when built right.

Your opinion. Not everyone will agree. The 7700hq is a damn decent mobile CPU for the prices offered.

its better than my core i5 3570K and that is a pretty solid processor for me. So if the price is right, why not?

then again, not much interested in gaming laptops. But cool none the less. More competition, more options, the better it is for us consumers.

Good competition to the new HP Pavilion Power lineup. Both, specs and price, are pretty much the same. The only thing that looks different, is the size: Mi Book seems much thicker and heavier than its HP counterpart (which is really unusual for Xiaomi)...

I was kinda wishing that for the gaming variant they wouldn't go with the "I'm not a MacBook, but still."
Sounds like a decent machine, however I have doubts about that keyboard.
Xiaomi isn't one to skimp on materials but I've seen this type of keyboard in other machines in the past and it was not that good over time. Bad tapping feedback and labels fading are common.

Yes, my opinion indeed.
You can get an equivalent 8th gen 4 core for a third of that TDP

If you're mentioning the U line, the low TDP is only reached in base clocks (and thereabouts). ;) With turbo, 8th gen U models reach as high as 6th and 7th gen HQ models, regarding TDP...well, performance too, duh :p

To be fair i7 7700HQ is good and capable mobile cpu. One thing there is though: in single core performance 25W i7 8550u and i7 8650u both beats i7 7700HQ. Not that it really matters though, current games can use more cores and 45W chip all core freqs are obviously higher. So the real crux is upcoming six core coffee lakes, which should be just around the corner by now.

1060 for mere $1440, yeah, eat this, customers!
Correction. And did you bother actually reading the rest of the specs? You know, the part were it said; "GTX 1060, 16GB of memory, a 256GB NVMe SSD, and a 1TB hard drive.".. Everything taken into account, that's decent price. Your point was pointless.
