Microsoft announced on Thursday an extension to the Xbox 360 warranty. While the official warranty at the present time is one year (two years in some countries), Microsoft announced a three-year warranty that covers any console that displays a three flashing red lights error message or also known as "the red ring of death." If a customer has an issue indicated by the three flashing red lights, Microsoft will repair the console free of charge-including shipping-for three years from the console's purchase date. Microsoft has also made some improvements to the Xbox 360 console that will reduce hardware lockups. This may refer to reports of Xbox 360s being outfitted with extra heat sinks to prevent console failure. The whole repair-extended warranty thing will cost Microsoft at least $1 billion, according to the company.

thats good news.only problem ive ever had with mine is the rare problem of the controllers not connecting with the console some time, usually a couple of restarts solves this but recently even though the problem is rare its getting quite bad, it struggles to find the second controller but my 1 year warranty is now void and i aint paying £100 to get it fixed so i think a cool new pc case could be in the pipelines soon!

this is the least M$ can do because it is practically a general fault with the hardware itself and you would have to call it that down to the fact of so many instance of the same product, Cheap isn't always cheerful and Microsoft certainly is cheap.

Not entirely suprising. Have to quelch the uprising at any cost. Good thing my Xbox will now be covered for a while longer.

I never had a problem with my 360, but this makes me very happy. It's nice to see them actually backing up their product 100%, props to MS!

I'm glad MS has deep deep pockets because if it was anyone else, they would have to commit suicide

yeah, I had the RROD happen twice, I think it was heat related though. Even with the two extra coolers it still happened. Hasnt happened since then though, but Id love extrea HSFs on mine, not just heatsinks.

Would they have bothered doing this without all the bad press? Methinks not! I've had mine for 6 months and only 1 ring of death and had to recover gamertag once, but it turned out to be a poorly mounted HDD which just needed plugged in with with a Fonzy style thump. I hope this sorts out the dodgy 360 plague; not so keen on the epoxy resin bonding of the cpu to the mainboard tho... :wtf:
