Developer GSC Game World announced S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 almost eight years ago in 2010. To say that the game has been on a wild roller coaster ride is an understatement. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was cancelled back in 2011 and resurrected later on in the same year. Then GSC Game World cancelled it for a second time in 2012. Now, six years later, it appears that the developer is willing to give it another go. The official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 website went live today with the "2.0.2.1." inscription suggesting that the game is scheduled for a 2021 release. Sergiy Grygorovych, CEO of GSC Game World, has confirmed on his Facebook that GSC Game World is currently working on the title. Not much is known about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 at this point other than it's built on Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4.

While this news would normally sound great for us STALKER fans (such as myself, big time), I would say to be very cautious over this. What made initial STALKER great was the team. Which majority of the team left and GSC being more or less bankrupt, left for A4 games (Metro series) and others. Also, to add to the current issues of GSC's home country, there is a general feeling in the air that such good things as this, just cannot be done (in current climate).

I will refrain from any kind of hype till I see actual gameplay.

I wouldn't trust anything Sergiy Grygorovych says on Facebook or any media. Back in 2014, 2015 and 2016 there were rumors about resurrecting STALKER, but it was just a hoax to get some attention to his almost non-existent dev. studio.

Unlike most folks, I enjoyed Clear Sky the most - dropped 100+ hours into it. I had fun trying out all the different factions to see how the world NPCs would change towards you. Go with STALKERS, bandits hated you and other factions pretty tolerated you. Go with Bandits and pretty much everyone hated you and you were shot at on sight. It made the game entertaining for me.
I thought Shadow of Chernobyl had the best atmosphere out of the three and was pretty solid game, even with some AI hiccups and without any mods.
I thought Call of Pripayt was the weakest of the group - it brought back some of the creepy atmosphere that CoS had and CS lacked, but it felt kind of empty.

STALKER games are the only games in all the past years that I actually paid full, retail price when they were released. They released at $39.99 whereas other games were going out for $49.99 to $59.99.

I'm excited to see an official announcement and I can't wait to see what they can offer.

If this is on UE4 and is fully moddable, I don't really care that much on how it turns out. It's the community that fixed the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games. Can be a hoax or not, there's enough games like this already, unless they want to continue the storyline that badly.

CoP with Call of Chernobyl or Misery is unbeatable. You create your own story, you can have your own objective and don't have to follow any plot but your own to succeed. If it ends up a linear game like Metro... well I know what I'm going to do.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R is a recent memory to me because I played it just a few years ago for the first time. Even as a fan, I'm not desperate for a new game. There's a large amount of survival games out there to keep one occupied.

A game sequel I'm more interested in is MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, now that franchise has been dead in the water for a whole lot longer, last official game was made in 2002 and not even by the makers themselves, because it was like a standalone expansion pack. MWO doesn't count, it's MP only. And LL is unofficial.

I'm happy to see there's some hope for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R franchise, but they have pretty high bar to surpass if they want to impress, some games have come a long way since 2010.

I would try this game if released on a full game dvd . no steam type accounts - no downloading or any content - no internet connection required unless you want to go MP . you know likE how real pc games USE TO BE for your privet use . I'd pay 60 - 100 bucks for that easy .
just the game disk my computer not a drop more needed . like it use to be unlike today you just bought a steam /uplay/origin account / client that goes first before you are allowed to use the game . with out them you got nothing

If youre that paranoid about your system security. what are you even doing online? using a browser made by microsoft, Mozilla, or Google with cookies or trackers on every website that track your digital footprint online....

Lets not forget your ISP who tracks your digital footprint anyway as youre using their service and going through their servers. Has all your delicious details like your bank account number, home address/telephone number and possibly even your social security number.

As for steam, Millions of people have this installed without many issues. Ive never had or even heard of steam steam stealing card/payment details or installing any malicious scripts/codes/keyloggers.or executables on to peoples machines.

Steam is just there for DRM purposes as well as providing an digital platform which you can buy games from and sometimes at better value than highstreet retail stores.

Imagine having a game thats 50-80gig. If a DVD drive only holds 4.7GB of data, you'd spend half a day installing only one game. They could use blu-ray discs but then the overheads would go up and it would be you who will be picking up the tab. Not to forget all the environmental effects of all the non recyclable material used to make the discs and game casings that could possibly end up in landfill.

I don’t want GSC teasing me like a cheap tart. I really don’t think they will put anything out. If they still manage to, without that team, it won’t be a STALKER game as we know it.

I did get inspired to take my GameData folder saved from years ago, with all its mods, inserting it into my newly installed GOG copy of STALKER: Call of Pripyat and playing about 3 hours today. Worked perfectly, even on W10.

I do have to say, still as fun and atmospheric as ever, but the graphics have not aged well. I love it anyway!

'' without limitation'' ??? , system security ??? ya, i'll agree to that for your use of a crap game .. lol.....

at least my real pc gamse don't require any of that 3ed party involvement or internet to load and play when ever I want to . and I hold the full software on a full game disk legal for ever not as long steam supports it / you so to say . ya, they see you coming a mile a way

anyway enjoy the game as they allow

A fool and his gaming is soon parted, it seems. You do realize the Steam DRM is made of paper, and that services like GOG exist alongside it? You just keep waiting for those CDROMs to come back ;)

I hear Wolfenstein 3D is still shareware too, incase you're bored.

YES!! Hope they get it done

CoP was Good, and with Redux+Atmosfear mods was Excelent.
