Lenovo Reveals ThinkPad P52 with Xeon Hexa-Core CPU and 128 GB of RAM

Lenovo recently announced its latest ThinkPad P52 mobile workstation designed for 3D rendering, content creation, and AI simulations. The laptop can be equipped with a 8th generation Intel Core or Xeon hexa-core processor. What's amazing with the Lenovo ThinkPad P52 is its ability to house up to 128 GB of DDR4 memory and 6 TB of storage. The P52 flaunts a 15.6-inch 4K display with a 10-bit color depth, 100% Adobe color gamut, and 400 nits of brightness. The laptop's graphics duties are delegated to a mobile high-end NVIDIA Quadro P3200 GPU with 6 GB of GDDR5 memory.

The ThinkPad P52 comes with two Thunderbolt 3 ports alongside three USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a HDMI 2.0 port, and a mini DisplayPort 1.4. It also comes with a Smart Card and an integrated 4-in-1 card reader. Internet connectivity includes a conventional RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port, Intel Wireless-AC 9560 802.11ac adapter with integrated Bluetooth 5.0, and a Fibocomm 4G LTE (Cat 9) modem. The ThinkPad P52 isn't only fast, but it's probably one of the most secure mobile workstations to date. Lenovo implemented various security measures into the P52 such as TPM 2.0, IR camera, fingerprint reader, and ThinkShutter. The manufacturer didn't disclose the pricing of the ThinkPad P52. However, we'll find out soon as the laptop should be available by late June.

This'll be a beast! Although, for a portable workstation I expect at least a 17" screen and would prefer a 19". Sadly those are very few a far-between..

They threw in everything but the kitchen sink. I'm thinking this beast is going to be really hot and pretty heavy. With that said, it has a very specific function and if I were into 3D modeling, it would be on my short list as long as it didn't melt.

Which is weird to me. They've been overrated since lenovo bought the brand and especially their keyboards are overrated. Gimme a well specced HP any day.

I like my Lenovos. They feel rugged and they even work great on server OSes. Dell Latitudes, however are a pain to get working right without serious workarounds on wireless.

Had many HP's, even budget ones and they are pretty good. Sure, you can see and feel things expected in that range, but long term, they work the best. I had one Lenovo netbook and it was so god awful, buggy and riddled with problems it's unlikely I'll ever buy a Lenovo again.

It really depends on the models. They both have crap at the lower end. Acer has worked well for me when it comes to cheap laptops but i'd much prefer buying used high end laptops.

Their keyboards are overrated now as are their laptops really, but some of the early true IBM thinkpads had pretty awesome keyboards, honestly.

I'm still a fan of Panasonic Toughbooks if we really want to go there, but I don't get to work on them very often anymore...

Sooo.... they like... fixed all the variants of Meltdown and Spectre and the latest Lazy FP State in hardware or they are just calling it "most secure" on paper? IMHO currently it looks more like swiss cheese to me...

It really depends on the models. They both have crap at the lower end. Acer has worked well for me when it comes to cheap laptops but i'd much prefer buying used high end laptops.

In my case is the contrary. Acer regular cheap laptops have been the worst thing I ever tried, not counting Packard Bell, yet the office laptops I've tried were pretty good.

Point out something that doesn't have Spectre to compare it to, and meltdown was completely patched, keep in mind.

If they can rescue what the original Thinkpads had going for them we would have a winner even if it were heavy which would be expected if good cooling is involved.
