Acer Announces 49", 55" Gaming Monitors - 4K, HDR, IPS

Acer today at its japan-specific news page revealed the launch of two new desktop monitors that really do defy convention on the real-estate that you can have plopped right in front of your eyes. The new 49" EB490QKbmiiipfx and 55" EB550Kbmiiipx displays (ehrm... a little more attention to the naming convention, Acer?) deliver what's expected to be a sub-par HDR experience (due to their maximum 300 cd/m² brightness), even though they do tout HDR 10 certification. Response times are being set at 4 ms for both models, with a 1,200:1 contrast ratio.

The monitors feature blue-light reduction technology, and 2x 5 W speakers are par of the course. "Flickerless" technology points our proverbial ears to some sort of variable refresh rate technology, but nothing else from the translation seems to suggest this. Input listing points to 1x HDMI 2.0 (HDCP 2.2 compatible), 2x HDMI 1.4, and 1x DisplayPort 1.2 ports. Apparently, these will be launched in Asia first, for 70,000 yen (550 EUR/USD) and 100,000 yen (799 EUR/USD) for the 49" and 55" panels, respectively, starting on June 21st.

HDR and 300 cd/m². Yeah and the standard is HDR10 sounds more like a normal Television than gaming monitor so maybe gaming "monitor" for consoles.

EB490QKbmiiipx was released last year. It does have have HDR mode and is a little brighter with 320 cd/m² but no certification of course. You get four 24" FHD monitors without the frames in a single screen package.

Panels need to be made in that size and there are only a few manufacturers + the focus is elsewhere - monitor products are notorious for always missing some crucial element to make it great. Its a trend you see with almost every brand except the pricier ones such as Eizo and to a (much) lesser extent Dell, Samsung, LG and Asus.

LCD tech is an inferior base with tons of tweaks stacked on top of it, really. Cheaper models lack the tweaks.

EIther way, when you see IPS and HDR in one sentence, run away.

Sure not realy HDR ready , refresh rate is missing ( i assume 60Hz ) , probably not the best pannel on the market but at least those are prices corectly compared to some other monitors !

There are a lot of 32" and 40" 4K monitors but are Korean.

There are a ton of 32" 4K monitors from name brands such as LG, Acer, Asus, Dell, etc. as well. There are a lot of options now.

We definitely need DP 1.5/2.0 or whatever & HDMI 2.1 to come sooner than later, 4K + HDR at high refresh rate (120Hz+) can't be done with current standards.

Damn even Ultrawide 1440p with HDR can't make it to 144Hz duo to current limited standards.
