ID-Cooling Intros SE-912i CPU Cooler

ID-Cooling introduced the SE-912i, a low-cost tower-type CPU cooler. The cooler comes in two variants based on the color of the fan's LED illumination, SE-912i-R (red) and SE-912i-B (blue). What's being sold here is a very "slim" tower-type cooler (with a thickness of just 63 mm), but it really is just an aluminium fin-stack meant for 92 mm fans, strapped onto a larger 120 mm fan, with a lot of the fan's airflow bypassing the fin-stack, which could be good to check air bleeding from the sides of the fin-stack.

Two 6 mm-thick copper heat-pipes make direct contact with the CPU at an aluminium base. The cooler only supports LGA115x and LGA1366 sockets, with the retention module attached to the base out of the box. The included fan takes in 3-pin power input, spinning at 1,600 RPM at 12V, pushing up to 58.4 CFM of air, with a maximum noise output of 26.4 dBA. Measuring 63 mm x 120 mm x 130 mm (DxWxH, including fan), the cooler weighs about 295 g. It is expected to be priced around $20.

Interesting funnel fan design to force the air from a large fan into smaller fin stack. Usually 1/4 of fan airflow just goes past the cooler, but here it's directed towards it even though fan is overlapping it. Was wondering the other day about similar fan design where the blades edge would actually be hidden within the fan frame, sort of like Noiseblocker Bionic series, but with the outer ring hidden within the fan frame. That should help increase pressure and flow of the air since it wouldn't be able to escape back anywhere. Hm.

Interesting... Seems like a lot of wasted space though. May as well make the radiator a bit larger if youre going to use a 120mm fan.

i wonder if another fan will make a notable difference, the design as you point is interesting, so a push / pull configuration will be interesting,

Actually for $20, is a interesting option, with just 2 heatpipes...direct competition for stock cooler

Probably not if you're chasing a certain price point. More fins -> higher price

Funnel/shroud is too short and sharp to have any worthwhile effect. Likely consequences that would not be deemed beneficial would be increased stress on fan blades, tendency to gulp air steep wall rejects, and heatsink capable of more cooling than is utilized.

In other words just the type of ineffective tricks one hopes to find as selling points on lower end products from lesser known brands.

A 3-pin fan -- really? In this day and age?? I'd rather take my 20 bucks and invest it toward a better CPU cooler.

So, ten bucks versus ten-fiddy? Doesn't matter what the price is, people will just get the cooler that costs five bucks more because it's vastly superior. Seriously, who's gonna pay twenty bucks for that thing?
