Intel Teases Their Upcoming Graphics Cards for 2020

Right in time for SIGGRAPH, the world's leading conference for computer graphics, the people around Raja Koduri and Chris Hook have posted a video on Twitter, which shows a teaser for their upcoming graphics cards, that are scheduled to become available in 2020.



The video is produced in a style that's typical for what Chris Hook has been releasing at AMD, too. It starts with a history lesson, praising Intel's achievements in the graphics department, and then continues to promise that in 2020, Intel discrete graphics cards "will be set free, and that's just the beginning".

In the comments for the video, Chris Hook, who left AMD to join Intel as head of marketing for their graphics department said: "Will take time and effort to be the first successful entrant into the dGPU segment in 25 years, but we have some incredible talent at Intel, and above all, a passion for discrete graphics."

A brilliant move. Start the marketing machine over a year before a product release, so by the time the release happens we're all bored to death of reading about it.
On a more serious note, they must be confident their product won't impress on its own if they drag the marketing in so early (just look at how AMD was doing the same when they were stuck releasing Bulldozer parts and how they barely leaked a thing before Zen).

There are a lot of brilliant minds at Intel and I strongly believe they wouldn't waste their time and money if they didn't think they could produce a competitive product.

That being said... I'm not expecting much. I don't think their first line of GPUs will have any substantial footing in a market against NVIDIA; but I wouldn't doubt it if their second or third iteration does. Intel has the power to build a small army, and given time, they will.

The process may be fine (well, it isn't, really, but it could get back on track by then), but have you heard about new fabs opening? If they make these themselves, they'll need to scale back production somewhere else.

Well, it's not like they target a Jan 1 release. Or that additional delays aren't to be expected. Though, knowing Intel, they'll probably sell the card, but it will take them two more years to fix their drivers

I'm fit as long as they bring their software leadership along. Directx 12 needs good filtering. Since it is Intel, and frankly ubiquitous, they should be able to integrate good filters. You should be able to remaster your own pc experience with new gpus, damn it.

tsmc will probably be on 5nm in 2020.I think Intel is delaying 10nm to late 2019.

Well they might not be on track with 10nm, but their 14nm is actually even better than specifics, besides, their 10nm could be even on par with TSMC 7nm for all we know. Also, i'm not sure you understand Intel is worth more than AMD and nvidia put together + TSMC and GloFo as of now, they could open new fabs, or they might increase productivity of existent ones.

Yeah, for now let's focus on 7nm, because nobody confirmed it'll come out that much before intel's 10nm which, for all we know, might be even better than that, like it happened with 14nm in the past.

I think they will be targetting the low and mid range market can't see them coming out with anything that would be along RX Vega/1070 levels of performance quite frankly, though who knows? I wonder if this will be a from the ground up design or possibly built on their exisiting HD/Iris iGPU architecture on a larger scale?

P.S I really hope they have a proper team of software developers for their driver implementation as their current drivers absolutely suck ass big time.

Uhmmm it's not like they announced Q1 2020 release , they could very well release in December 2020 litle do we know !

If only more developers would embrace DX-12. I dont think theres enough that do to really push other developers to pick it up. Its been like this every time a new DX version is released. Maybe Intel should poach talent from Microsoft and EA and start making their own games.

then nvidia released the tnt2 m64... better drivers more vram...
