Sega Games' latest entry to the Total War series was announced earlier this year, and now we know when it will be out along with more launch and order information. Total War: THREE KINGDOMS is, as expected, a turn-based real time strategy game and is set during the Three kingdoms time period in China (~190-280 C.E.). Fans of the Dynasty Warriors series will find familiar names and factions listed here, with players set to control one of 11 different factions led by warlords including Cao Cao, Lu Bu, Sun Jian and others. The game will launch first on Windows OS (on Steam) followed by MacOS and Linux support later next summer.

Despite the game being over 5 months from launch, we already have pre-orders available and that also comes with exclusive pre-order game content in the form of the Yellow Turban rebellion that precedes the main game and delves into the peasant rebellion against the Han dynasty. Whether you are a fan of this practice or not, you can check out the trailer below. The game itself is up for pre-order on Steam now for $60, and there is also a collector's edition for all of $160 which includes more content as seen here. As always, we caution against pre-ordering games- especially ones that announced pre-order DLC in advance.

Did you seriously ever enjoy naval battles in TW? They always felt weird and clunky as hell to me.

EDIT: well that trailer shows just about nothing :D

To be fair, CA was pretty good with both Total War Warhammer games, so preorder itself is not a big issue. First one was tainted though due to Chaos Warriors being a preorder bonus (in a universe where they (Chaos) is basically the second of two sides and faces of the univer, first one being the Empire). \
But yeah, Britannia was a bit of a letdown and they have made strange decisions about the Three Kingdoms, especially about the naval battles.

OH yeah, Britannia... totally forgettable. I completely even missed they already released it.

CA is fast going the Assassins Creed route with the TW franchise, they need to tone it down I think. We don't need to TW-sauce everything that moves... Really all I want is a fresh take on Shogun again, and Three Kingdoms may get close but it just won't do it for me, setting wise. I think its time to give the TW formula some drastic changes, also engine wise they can improve quite a few bits, especially when it comes to the look of the maps, weather and landscape. The models look nice, but the battlefields really do not.

The best thing that CA could do is issue a refresh of Medieval 2 with support for higher resolutions. I have SOB but I don't even have 2 hours of gameplay in the game. I will definitely be pre ordering 3 Kingdoms but when it comes available on Green Man gaming, my go to site for new releases.

Not sure about naval battles it might just be strictly land based.

I will probably give this a try since I am a huge fan of TW in general.

Britannia is the worst TW experience to date for me. I couldn't stand it and after 3-4 campaign restarts, I just uninstalled it. The game felt unbalanced and unintuitive on Very Hard and I am very comfortable with VH and Legendary difficulties.
