Very few games need any more than 6 cores. 8 tops, so how can such a motherboard be touted as a product in the "Republic of Gamers" line when it's not a gaming CPU? That makes zero logical sense..
I suppose it'll help people set new world records in 3DMark Time Spy? That seems to be the "gaming benchmark" du jour, despite that it scales with CPU cores in a way that no game in existence does.

Right? Exactly my thoughts as well.

Maybe "competing for benchmark world records" is "gaming" to them? Sounds more like a sport than a game to me, but the line between the two is... tricky to pinpoint (I've been studying games for 4-ish years now, and one of the key takeaways from the field of Game Studies is that nobody can agree on a definition of what a game is :p (that doesn't mean there aren't excellent articles on the subject, it's just that universally defining what a game is is nigh on impossible)). Oh well. It's all marketing BS anyhow, and I'm sure it'll drive a ton of traffic to sites and YouTube channels doing overclocking and benchmarking content.

Here's how I define it based on logic and reason, Games are something a person(s) actively participates in through direct input. Anything else is just entertainment that one observes.

While I don't fundamentally disagree (interaction is definitely a required/defining feature of games), by that definition, Microsoft Word is a game. See the issue? :p It's never as easy as it sounds.

I insist it needs some puzzle revolving around pattern recognition (it could be text based or graphics.. that doesn't matter.. It doesn't even have to be digital. Board/card games and sports still qualify.. or in fact, invented the concept first). Mere "input" can be practically anything. Something as boneheaded as a walking simulator.

Allow me to restate; Games are a form of entertainment a person(s) actively participates in through direct input. Anything else is just entertainment that one observes.
Better?

Back on topic, While Xeon CPU's can be used to game very well, they are directly aimed at the professional/business/enterprise sectors so ASUS releasing a board under it's ROG badge seem like a shameless and equally pointless money grab..
