400quid for a Mp3 player.....alright

Ive heard of this brand. Ive seen & also heard 1 of their 2.1 sound systems go for the price of the best 5.1 surround sound kit u can buy.

I love my music, im really anal about my music. about my favorite bands etc & Im a guitarist in a band that does gigs locally, & yes. I also quite anal about the sound I get from my gutar setup - so I guess im half audiophilenese. (I can also quote the bit rate of MP3's without looking at media player!!!)

back to the OP. you may love your sound as much as me but on a bang for buck comparision Id go with the cheaper player with more storage....

having XFi technology built into an mp3 player is cool but nothing can compare with the price so long as u got a decent set of headphones. got all your favorite tracks on the player. & the battry lasts for a good 12hrs. thats really all you need....

Everybody is missing one thing here. It's an mp3 player. It doesn't matter the B&O makes some of the best audiophile gear in the world, when you're still listening to compressed music on it. Super high quality playback will just make the mp3 artifacts more noticeable.

Oh, and McIntosh, FTW!!!!

To fill some of you non-audiophiles in here...

Bang & Olufsen is probably the single largest ultra high quality company in the world.

My uncle has their audio equipment throughout his home. To give you an idea of the cost just under $65,000 for a subwoofer for his theater.

Is the price inflated for the name- you bet it is!

Is the price worth the quality- if you want a piece of the best there is than yes because no matter which company that high up you go with you will pay an inflated price for the name and top notch quality not many can match.

Think about it- I can compare it to cars here quickly-

Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Same car as the
Ferrari "Forget the name*

Either way they are the "SAME" car, I cannot stress this enough. By ALL mechanical reasons, including the body material. Interior is "SLIGHTLY" different.

Anyways to get to the point-
Z06 - $70,000
Ferrari- $120,000
$50,000 in interior thats "slightly" different? Paying for the name.

Now I would bet to wager this mp3 does some really nice and clean decompression of the mp3s, probably has audio processing you will not find anywhere else, and probably has a Class A or maybe A/B amplifier in it which in most cases of portable music players you are not going to find anything at all near that. Probably rates somewhere around .01% or lower THD, in most cases of portable music you are looking at 1% or more.

Anyways I could go into tech specs all day but we aren't here for that.

When this players gets released and I get a chance to take a look at one, I will probably actually consider buying this one myself. I have been waiting for a high quality player again. I would like to have one to plugin to my deck in my car so I don't have to flop cd's around.
*Yes my deck plays mp3s but the quality of the decompression is well questionable and I am an audiophile and I can hear the difference severely*

Although your correct there.... There is a serious part you are missing...

If you didn't download your mp3's and ripped them yourself slowly and properly using a very high quality drive. You can rip at a really high quality and get no artifacts.

Anyways McIntosh is another elite company. I am saving to replace my amplifiers in my car with their amps. $4000 for a 400 watt 4 channel :respect: And worse yet I need 2 of those and a sub amp....

Shows what you know about cars...

Ferrari did the chassis design for the Z06, and GM did the engine. The deal was Ferrari got to release and model. Same motor, same chassis, same suspension.

Ohh ya needless to say same 1/4 mile, same skid pad, same top speed, same hp rating, same braking distance... Need I go into more?

They are all in all the same car.

Ferrari HELPED design the Corvette Z06 chassis...And that chassis resembles nothing that Ferrari has to offer so theres nothing to be the same as.
They use Different Engines, Different breaking system, Different construction materials...
Bottom line Ferrari is Ferrari and Corvette is Corvette.

Highly doubtful on the subwoofer part... They is a lot of engineering work that goes into that 99.9% of people cannot comprehend let alone do. But if your all genius go ahead build one and take their business

Now I remember why I stopped bothering to post on this forum.

And I'm sorry the price difference is a little more than that also.

he means in performance (i hope)

and he is correct the 0'7 Z06 corvette can keep up with most ferarri's out there (other than enzo i believe there are none in fact that outperform it)

as for the sub part ITS AN ALGORITHM THAT IS USED TO achieve the level of sound talked about and there are MILLIONS of speaker building books that give you a similar algo which for $5 and about $5000 in parts gives you very SIMILAR sound quality

he means in performance (i hope)

Performance all around, including the suspension, braking, everything related, chassis is the same, body is slightly different *same material*, same exact motor, maybe a slightly different plastic covering the motor. Different wheels, tires. Caliper says Ferrari instead of Corvette.

And like I said the interior is slightly different, there are small differences, Ferrari cannot build a car that doesn't meet Ferrari buyers requirements, but its not worth the price difference, you are paying for the name. It was a deal that gave Ferrari a base model road/track car to sell to its market, and gave Chevrolet a Corvette that is one sick monster.

Yes the Z06 will compete with many Ferrari's out there in performance, yes the Enzo is one which will destroy it, so will the F430, I'm sure there are more but those 2 recent ones I am certain of. This car is the same all around.

The 575 has a pushrod 500bhp 6 liter V8, intake, bore, stroke, heads, cam lift/duration is all the same between the two cars, the gearing is the same and the weight is literally like 16lbs different. They are by all means to a driver and mechanic the same car. Yes there are differences that make the Ferrari a little nicer and a little more race style feeling, but nothing that sets it apart by the incredible cost difference. A lot of what you pay for there is the name. And real quick in case you think wait the Ferrari is hand build, so is the Z06.

Similar is possible, I do speaker building, I am also going to start school for sound engineering.

But just like anything else is that sound, that last inch of perfection that cannot be done. And the subwoofer *speaker itself* they do not pay 3rd party companies to build their speakers, thats another problem with the DIY project. Yes you can do some nice stuff yourself if you have the patience and grab a book or directions. But you cannot compete with the audiophile against the best the world has to offer. *granted they have the money and are willing to pay it*
